I certainly hope everyone enjoyed the IRON PAINTER challenge the first go around....It was certainly fun for me.

I think I'd like to get another one going....but not for several weeks yet.

First things first.

I liked the format we used last time, with a panel of judges, it seemed fair and balanced...what do you all think?

We should stick to the 'deadline' more firmly. I granted an extension and it seemed to fizzle out some of the tension.

I am thinking about adding a few more theme ingredients into the painting part. For instance, last time we really empasized technique...but how about also mixing things in like emotion? For instance...this weeks theme is RAGE....and your minis would have to evoke that somehow..

Any other changes you would like to see?

Lastly, how about a show of interest? This is all just loose so far, but how many of you would be interested in participating?

I'm most likely in... but it depends a bit on how fully booked I am with the 4 competitions i already try to join by then (Exodus road and Wyrd for painting and Frothers and Black Hat for sculpting, besides normal daytimejob and freelance work ofcourse)... But if I do have time to do it propper... i'm in.

I'm in as a judge again! If you want me, that is...

I like the idea with the non-technical themes. Maybe we should even have only non-technical themes this round?

About deadlines... I agree that the deadlines should be kept. However, I think in the round where the deadline was extended we would have seen a couple of more walk-over victories and that would have been even less fun. But, as a rule I agree the deadline should be tight and kept.

I'm in again. Non-technical is good with me, I think it would be fun and a good change.

I'd be up for it again. I'd feel less rushed this time for personal reasons.
I like the idea of non-technical themes, but it will be hard to come up with them I think.

I think I prefer the non-technical theme myself too... seems nice and creative. But true..., they might be harder to come up with. Unless you add themes like... beasts, ugly and the even more ugly, a dark Gothy night, Anger and rage (as you already mentioned), perfectly innocent... or are they, something stirs beneath the surface (can be earth or water), shedding it all (figs showing a lot of skin), the colourfull skins of the fantasy world (skintones which are neither caucasian (sp?) or tan... not the human skintones in short), taking flight (anything that levitates, flies or in another way stays airborn)

If you can promise me NO NMM, I'll be in again :tongue2:

Seriously, going through so big changes on the home front made me have to drop out of the last one but now I'm pretty much settled into my new situation, and can join in stuff again. (Even if my paintjobs are laughable).

What themes are in the pot now, vike? Can you tell us?

:wavey:

The non-technical themes must, however, be of the type that can somehow be judged or we will lose one of the judging criteria. It shouldn't be just a matter of chosing a suitable mini. They should force the painters to incorporate the theme by their paintjobs. That's an important factor, IMO.

Points above... yeah what Ritual says... though it would mean it will be very hard to come up with suitable ideas. All of mine will probably fall through then.

Not necessarily, Cindy! I mean, if you have that "gothy" theme, for instance, it's not enough chosing a gothy looking mini... you need to paint it in dark colours too. So, then there will be something to judge there. A "rage" theme would also involve capturing the right facial expression, enhancing the rage that is depicted in the sculpt. The "Shedding it all" theme would also include a technical aspect, that is "painting skin". It's a lot more difficult painting a completely nude mini than just painting the face and hands on a clothed mini.

So, I don't think it would be all that difficult coming up with suitable themes. :)

lots of good ideas here, I like the idea of asthetic rather than technical themes, although no reason you couldn't do both at the same time either ;)

Ah...I have no ideas in the pot right now...the 'mood' is just something I'd love to see explored. And, yes I thought it should be more complex than choosing a 'angry' mini or something. I realize it may turn a bit subjective, which is why that would only account for one portion of the scoring.

I'm in! And I don't care what rules there are...I just want to join the madness and frenzy.

The ability to create a mood is a technical skill as well as an artistic one. It involves not just color choices but subtlties of creating a realistic expression and choosing a painting style that fits the mood. Yes it becaomes more subjective, but I do think it's a good idea and one that's regularily used in art competitions.

Anyways, I'm in either as a judge or a competitor. Where ever you guys thinks works better. Just keep in mind that GenCon is the weekend of the 12th and many people will be very busy then.

Maybe we should run this thing after GenCon, then... And Skya, you should be a contender. Definitely! You've got a title to defend... and we want to see more of your painting! :D

LOL. Cool I'm in on teh painting side then. As long as it's after GenCon it should be good. I'll have a lot to get done anyways and some solid motivation always helps.

Oh good, since my paint collection's been halved and I have no primer, that'll give me time to restock!

Have fun at GenCon, those who are going!

Make sure to get some:coolpics:

Duende,
I know you've hinted at personal difficulties lately. I'm sorry to hear it affected your paint supply.

So we've definately hit after GenCon at this point. Anyone actively organizing this?

I've got a title to defend. ;)

Oh, yeah! I'm all about organizing this.

Should we wait until the official end of the SOMETHING WYRD contest? Or barge right in and start?

Ritual

We would need to have a "round-up" period to gather contestants, so let's decide upon a starting date and then try to get as many to participate in the mean time.

I'm out, sorry. Planned to join in at first but by now I have so many comps on the go I ran out of time.

Makes sense. The real question then becomes if we want to start it before or after the Something Wyrd contest finishes.
