Wimps.
I got my OSL mini itself pretty much done last night, and I'm pretty damn happy with the way it came out. I just need to do the base. I'll be finishing up my first mini for Total Testosterone by the time your new "slacker" deadline rolls around. :bootyshak
You may now consider the trash talked. :D

also remember, the mini doesn't need to be dominated with OSL, but smaller areas where it is well integrated with the flow of the piece will work nicely also :)

Can I have another week on my last entry? Might come in handy... :brushteet

It's been quite on the Iron Painter thread for awhile so I thought I'd check in.
So how is every ones OSL project coming along?
I finished mine last week, I just need to photograph it. It's not perfect, but I'm pretty happy with the results, especially for the first time trying this effect. If nothing else this contest has given me a lot of confidence in my ability to try new stuff, and really pushed me to experiment.

Not me. I've barely gotten anywhere and I don't really like the look.
Just primed the base last night. I think that will help the overall look of the piece.

I have been done for awhile, and as I predicted I have already finished my first Total Testosterone entry in the "extra" time. :D I need to figure out what to paint for a second one now.
Meh, mine still looks like crap, which is why I havent put any pics up yet. :P

Ok my entry is now posted in the gallery. Photographing it might be the hardest part in the end.
It was a unique experince for me, never having done OSL. I happy to have been pushed to do it though, as I am no longer afraid to paint it. There are a few things I would change if I were to start over, but it came out alright. I'd like to here how people think it came out.
Ok, mines up. Or it will be once someone approves it. I'm going to go hide for a week now and try to get some actual work commissions done.

Heh, I just love smack talk.
Seriously though folks, get off yer arses and get them in, it would be a real shame to see a bunch of you get disqualified because you didn't manage to get your pieces in on time, even with the extended deadline.
Oh, and may I suggest no more extended deadlines, I think it just about killed the spirit of this little competition, the smack talk was high and people were loosing life points with their significant others as they hurriedly tried to paint something even when cuddle time was up for grabs.

Thus begins the "Menage-a-Paint" The vicious three way battle is about to begin.
The warriors...
Vincegamer the reluctant one...Wasn't even sure about entering, let alone dominating the first two rounds. Comes off a brilliant showing last round.
R2J1 Seems generally surprised to find himself in the championship, is the wide wondered stare just an act of 'pulling the wool' over his competitors eyes? The ultimate infamous rope-a-dope?
Skya After a dominating first round, the hand of fate slid her past the second round. We all know the talent she possesses...Will it be unleashed in the final fight?
The warriors prepare their brushes and paints. Who will be crowned the IRON PAINTER? Who will walk away with the coveted prize? Who will break under the pressure?
The Theme ingredient has been chosen (randomly) and it turns out to be...
NMM
Non-Metallic-Metals. The painter may choose the type of metal to be represented...bronze, gold, silver, aluminum, whatever. Do your best to represent metal without the use of metal paints.
The time constraint is 2 weeks (with NO extensions). The finished minis must be uploaded to the site NO LATER THAN....SATURDAY June 17th at 6pm CST
Good luck!

Jubilee, the folks that 'win' their rounds don't get prizes from Jim or Wyrd, but are instead moved forward in order to get the larger prize which is your choice of two miniatures from the Wyrd line, new ones coming out, plus a $25 gift certificate. If you win your round, your opponent, that lost to you, should have sent you either $5 through paypal or a miniature from his or her collection.
If you didn't get that, please let us know, as that means someone on their end isn't holding up their part of the bargain.
If you 'loose', you are required to send along your donation to the person that won against you and as a consolation prize, Wyvern Games has donated a bunch of miniatures which Jim then sends out as a 'consolation' prize.
Hope that clears things up. And if I bollocked something up, Jim will correct me.

06-01-2006, 12:58 PM
NMM, ouch that one is tough considering I have chosen to focus on real metalics for the last few years. Even when I was doing a fair bit of NMM I was never very good at it. Still I have done a few pieces that were decent, lets hope I can pull it off again.
Funny how the two themes I feared most OSL ans NMM both came up.
Just out of curiosity what were the rest of the themes in the hat?
supervike
06-01-2006, 01:30 PM
the rest of the themes that were left over....
Bloody Hell (use of gratuitios blood)
The Color Purple (duh)
Drybrush (I was hoping this wouldnt be chosen)
SENMM (like nmm only more)
Different colored skins (not typical flesh colors)
Red rum. (theme color of red)
Green with envy (theme color of green)
Wet T-shirt contest (use of transparency of some sort)
Monochrome (limited palette of 2 colors plus black and white)
I tried to stick to all painting themes....but I thought it would be fun to pick on miniature cliches as well....Severed head holder, pointing finger mini, extreme cheesecake.....Maybe for future competitions.
r2-j1
06-01-2006, 02:03 PM
Cool I kinda wish a color theme had come up, that would have been pretty neat. I think the alternative flesh one would have been fun too.
The drybush one would have been interesting. I wonder how that would have turned out. :trytofly:
I'm glad the blood one didn't come up, but that is just a style preference.

Oh, wait, you were joking. Honestly though, I for one would have preferred Al Gore to painting gratuitous gore, either of which I would have preferred to NMM though. In fact, NMM and SENMM would have been my bottom 2 choices. My top would probably have been wet t-shirt because I have yet to try that, just as I had yet to try OSL. Different skin would have been nice too. Ah well, guess I have to dig through my minis now and find a good one for NMM.

Jim has been away this week, thus the delay. My votes are in and comments too (I assume they need to be cleared by a moderator first though...).

Ya'll know why I've not done it yet, busy and stressed, but that's pretty much taken care of. Left a note to Jim last night, I'll have mine done today. My apologies to everyone - bad timing on my part.

It worked and your posts are up. The posts for all the galleries are on moderate because of the TT contest.

Yeah! I am definately wanting to do this type of contest again...Very enjoyable.
Maybe in a month or so, I will start to organized the 2nd contest!
Thank you guys, I had a lot of fun with this. It was freeform enough to feel like I could really push myself and yet focused enough to give me a sense of direction. If you decide you want to do this again I'll happily volunteer as a judge.
