View Full Version : Gen Con Painting Contest Pictures
I took some pictures of the entries to the Gen Con painting contest. And surprisingly, I'm actually managing to post them. Most of them aren't the greatest pictures. I missed several models (including one of my own) because they had already been retrieved from the case by their painters or I couldn't get over to that section. Sue will eventually have much better pictures posted of the winners I imagine.

Oh I forgot to say - does anyone know who makes this fig (http://journeytogencon.com/ftp/Minis%202008/gc08-single-26.jpg)? I'd so love to have an Indy of my own. I know Reaper does a sort of Indy figure, and Copplestone has some archaeologists, but I couldn't find this guy. (And if whoever painted it happens to see this, I like the paint job, too!)

I'm asking about the Indy figure over at the Dwarvenforge forums. I remember hearing some people talk about an Indiana Jones project they were working on, so they might have an idea.

Cool; thanks for the photos.
I did a quick search for Indiana Jones miniatures, but couldn't seem to really find anything. The only one that shows up looking like that one is here: LINK (http://greywolf.critter.net/gallery/deadlandsminisgallery.htm), but is doesn't say who made it.
Thanks for looking guys. I think that's the same fig Hinton, and it says painted in 2000, so that's a little info, I guess. I poked around Foundry a bit. I didn't see it there, but their stuff isn't the easiest to search.

cheers for the pics Wren.. I'm pretty certain the indy is by copplestone.. I think it was a limited run.. could be wrong but will have a check around....They did several Lara croft versions at the same time and they were available at shows here... I'm about 80% on that...
Limited run, argh! Though I'm not surprised to hear it. Please let me know if you find any more out.

Yep, eventually we'll finish all the editting and paperwork and stuff and Gen Con will have the pics of all the winners. Also, Historical Miniatures ("HM") magazine will be publishing covereage of the competition and our events, so check that out as well!
So please be patient...we all have jobs and families and waaaaayyy too much to do. We;re talking a few weeks, not days here.

My informants from Dwarvenforge came through for me on the Indy question!
The mini is part of a boxed set RPG game that came out:

http://ijc.at/Games/RPG/WEG11_Miniatures.jpg
http://ijc.at/Games/RPG/RPG_WEG2.htm
Word is there were 2 RPGs that came out in the 80's and 90's, one by TSR and the other by WEG. This figure seems to be in the game from West End Games.

There are a few companies that make similar figures, but for copyright reasosn theyt call them different things. Artizan does one, I think it's called Kentucky Sam or something like that. H ehas no whip, but th ehand not holding a gun is positioned so that it would be pretty easy to add one. I think Andrea or Pegaso makes a 54mm one as well.
Actually...

Wren, those pictures turned out so nicely, I can't figure out why your other pictures always get the colors so wrong. Is it a different camera? =)

That would make sense ........ nice one.....I'll keep checking for the copplestone one because my memory tells me it was more or less the same....

Wren, there's a guy in Reaper's Chronoscope line who looks kinda like that:

I hope I didn't come off as impatient, I know it takes a while to do all the wrap-up and stuff, and I don't have a problem with it. I just like to post my pics, however awful, because I try to include as many entries as I can and I know there's barely time to photograph the winners for the official pics.
I'm excited to hear there will be coverage in a magazine! I hope you'll let us know when it comes out and how to get a copy if we're so inclined. Very cool!
Thanks for the info on the Indy figure, and the alternate suggestions everyone. Much appreciated! Interesting that there was an official set. I'll have to see if I can pick up some of these, as there's definitely nothing wrong in my book with having more than one Indiana Jones. ;->
@Jubilee - Yep it's the same camera. Less fiddling with the pictures, even, just a quick fix with the levels. I've really got to figure out where I'm going wrong with that thing...
Someone's posted a video on YouTube of some of the Gen Con contest and Privateer Press entries.

I believe this is a Reaper Model - from the Chronoscope line -

Thanks for putting up the links of pictures. I found mine in the list!!

Might be the only pic I have for a while. :-)

I'm sorry it's not a better pic. I liked your mini a lot and I think that was from one of the more over-exposed pictures so it didn't capture all the nuances.

Oh it's ok... you can't really expect to get great pics through that case. Hopefully I can get the hubby to get a better pic soon.

Sorry it isn't a Wyrd figure yet...

Yeaaah ... I kept hearing that all weekend. :D
Ya'll can make it up to me in the upcoming contests though. We've got the Rotten Harvest which is around the corner. Something Wyrd which is likely to rear its head here in the near future and of course the Iron Painter which we're already discussing (though it'll probably be later in the year when people are mostly housebound due to the weather, etc.

Well, I'll keep my eye open for the contest and details. Not familiar with any of your rules here...
Really looking forward to pulling out the minis I bought and getting some done.
Need to finish three Kraken first though...

Ack, insult to injury!
:D
We run painting contests all the time as the forum regulars know. Next one is the Rotten Harvest which we'll be posting information on here in a couple of weeks. Always my favorite one to be honest (I'm a Halloweenie ...)
I'd been wondering which contest was up next, for some reason I thought it would be Femme Fatale. Good to get the heads up to start pondering entries.

Femme Falale is in Feb/March, IIRC.

Wren, thanks for putting up so many pics! They look good, much better than I did; my camera batteries went dead after the first pic or two at the display cases.
PS - Rotten Harvest...yeeessss!
