So I finally got enough time to sit down and start working on my Lady Justice and Death Marshals Skirmish group.
I also got ahold of a set of the graveyard inserts from Wyrd and thought I'd mess around with getting the models on them as well.
Here's where things stand now. I went ahead and based them all using a graveyard theme. I haven't cleaned up since the sand was glued down so it'll look a little messy.
I added a few bits of gravel to the precast bases to in order to give them a more 'natural' look when set next to the couple I didn't use a precast base for.
Sorry for the blur on the photos, took the shots as I was going along, didn't set anything up and am just now seeing a couple are blurry.
Lady Justice.
I put her on the tombstone base with the flowers. I sort of envision these guys as having joined up with the Guild after suffering a tremendous loss of some sort. The tombstone is a loved one's.

Judge.
His pose looks a little wonky in these pictures, but it looked fairly natural on the table. Hmmm.

DMs. I thought these guys could represent the 3 aspects of their craft:
1. Investigation:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v662/Keltheos/wyrd/minis/P1170088.jpg
2. Pursuit:

3. Capture:

I have no idea if this is how they will work in Mal, but it sounded good. The 'investigating' DM could also be paying his respects/promising revenge to a loved one.
Next step: primer!!

nice start I like the idea o the three aspects of the DM's never thought of that before but it works...
look forward to seeing how these come along....

Kel,
I just finished up cleaning pinning and basing mine this weekend, as well. I decided to go with the graveyard base inserts too. They will add to my growing list of work in progress minis. I would have primed them last night, but I realized that I needed more white primer. I guess I will hit the auto parts store on the way home to pick up some Duplicolor. I will try to post some WIP pics as I go, as well.

I have about 10 things I need to get at least semi-finished painting-wise for Indy, these guys are one of them.
Anger, let's try to keep each other motivated. ;)

I'd say that's motivation.
Very cool btw, looking forward to seeing your warbands painted up.
Hrmmm, there is a competition in there somewhere (off to think up something appropriate ...).

Lol.
Great motivation! I got them primered yesterday, so now to start slapping on some colors!
I doubt I'll be finished before Indy, but if I can at least block the basic colors on each I'll be happy.

Keep posting your progress pics... I will try to get some taken and posted tonight... I was trying to get a few warbands completed on the off-chance that I would be able to get to Gencon this year... I was hoping to get a chance to play on that demo table... I am going to keep working at getting them done as a personal challenge to myself... If I can keep you motivated in the process, that's a bonus!

You won't be there? Darn!
I thought I'd post some shots after slapping a bit of paint on. Black primered figs are sorta boring. ;)
Anger, what did you do with yoru base coat? Is it a drybrush of white over black?
I see good old Yuri in one picture too. ;)
St. Anger
07-28-2008, 02:25 PM
I prime in white using Duplicolor Sandable Primer. I then brush on a 4:1 mix of Vallejo Glaze Medium and Vallejo Brown or Black Glaze. This is a mixture and technique I got from Skrivanek. It helps define some details. And yes, that is Yuri on my growing WIP list...
Keltheos
07-28-2008, 04:18 PM
I like how that defines the detail, makes picking things out much easier. I've been a black primer convert for a long time, but I might throw a quick white DB on them and see what it gets me. Interesting...
St. Anger

I used to exclusively prime in black and recently also utilzed a dark grey primer. I had tried white previously, but with limited success. After seeing how Skrivanek had used it on some of his minis, I liked the effects. I like using the brown glaze mix especially on natural flesh areas. Since I use a thinned down paint mix, the flesh tones don't obscure the natual shading that the glaze provides. Also, if I paint carefully, I can avoid the areas, such as eye sockets, etc. and get a natural shadow. It works for me.

Here is an update on my progress!!! The pictures were taken after midnight, so they aren't the best but you get the idea... It will probably be a few days before I get some more work done and pics taken.

Ah, so that's how it is. You bet then raise?
Ok. got some time to paint a bit this morning and slapped a quick white DB on the figs then started with flesh tones. I'll shoot some shots tonight (hopefully after doing more work).
I have my Wyrd warband, Steamjack Arena terrain, and AE-WW2 stuff in progress.

Only one warband??? Better not let Nathan hear you say that... I have heard stories of what Nathan and Eric have done to wayward souls that enter the Gencon Booth!!! They walkout sore and with a lighter wallet. :blackeye:
I have the three Guild Warbands and the makings of two Arcanist Warbands and some Mercs sitting on my painting table...

Showoff. ;)
I fully expect my wallet to suffer when I hit up the Wyrd booth. :)
Yeah, one for now. I have another, but passed it on to DavidS to paint up in the meantime. Wanted to get a few things semi-ready for Indy and these guys are on the list.

That's a fair few minis there St Anger , I think that counts as more tha one project:p:.. liking the look of these so far...
I notice a lot of people doing this brown wash over the undercoat can really help when it comes to sorting out some of the really tiny details..
I like to do a two or 3 stage spray prime a lately for my quicker stuff.. spray from the bottom Black , Then horizontally 360 degrees with Grey then a light spraying from the top with white... Then just usig thin paints the undercoats do most of my shading and highlighting for me... all good fun..
keep em coming guys......
Keltheos .. keeping busy man good to hear look forward to seeing what all you guys have ready for Gencon...good luck

Come now Dan... Have you given up on the challenge? You have a little over a week left... Updated pics will be posted soon...
Keltheos
08-06-2008, 03:16 PM
I haven't given up on it so much as haven't had the time. Example: last night I would have been good for an hour, but yesterday morning my little girl woke up with a massive rash on her back, so we took her into the doctor to find out she had hives from 'something'. It cleared up BEFORE we got her to the doctor's but went anyway. So my wife and I stayed an extra hour at our jobs to keep up with things.
So that hour I had evaporated when I didn't get home until 7pm.
I probably won't do much tonight because Ms. "I'm good at being 2" woke up at 4:30 am and ran around the house for about 2 hours...sooo tired.
I will have some good time to dedicate to them this weekend, but I know I won't be finished by a long shot.
But having you guys as encouragement does help!! :)

Painting update since Wed and tonight.
Finished 12 barricades for Steamjack Arena (well, assembled, did a 2 color DB on them at least).
Pinned and mounted the 2 flags for Steamjack Arena Capture the Flag.
Pinned/glued down the rest of my 750 points of WM Pirates I hadn't locked onto bases yet.
Finished painting the SJA 3x3 board.
Made sure all my terrain/figs are ready for travel to Indy.
Now, at 6:30, I'm in the home stretch. I'll be doing some base colors on my Wyrd and other minis I'm bringing and will have to be happy with whatever I can get done before I leave. I won't be working on anything tomorrow or Tuesday nights.
And it's now 10:30. Never did pick up a brush for my Wyrd. :(
Instead, spent the time going through and slapping some paint on more SJA stuff.

Labor Day weekend update (so far). So, somehow instead of focusing on PAINTING I focused on ASSEMBLING models.
I'd post a list, but staring at my jacked up fingers (glue, dirt, knife nicks) I'm better off saying I've cleaned and assembled and/or repaired ~150 miniatures (wyrd, warmachine, hordes)
Good times.
