OH MAN!!!

This is the most hotly contested round I can recall in our short history!! Everyone (except Ben$quig) scored OVER 50! AMAZING!

First of all, fantastic job with all the entries. I love the fact that you can take a relatively dorky theme and turn it into something fantastic...Each and every one of you are winners in that regards. However, you are not ALL Iron Painters, at least according to the judges.

So right to it, if you please.

Here are the scores!

WINNERS are in RED:
Losers, do your thang.

Moavoamoatu 52 vs Morf 51.5
Ben$quig DNF vs. Bexley 52
Brushmistress 50.5 vs. Darklord 50.5

And, due to the tie, I had to dust off the rules

http://wyrd-games.net/showthread.php?t=3224

Explicitly, rule 10

10. ADDENDUM....Any tie will be broken by whichever contestant has the highest score in THEME. If that does not break the tie, the judges will each select one of the painters to advance, if that doesn't work, I flip ye old coin.

So, to Theme we go...

winner in Red:

Brushmistress 12 vs. Darklord 13.5

UN-FREAKING- BELIEVABLE!

Such an AMAZING round, just tight scores! WOW WOW WOW!

Congrats to the winners, I will post the complete ballots, with comments, very soon.

Here are the actual Ballots:

RITUAL:

Brushmistress
Theme: 4
Technique: 5
Overall: 9
Comment: Very fun and very, very well done. Good job on the converting! And the paintjob is really superb. It seems to me you have raised your bar considerably since you first got into this Iron Painter thing.

Moavoamoatu
Theme: 5
Technique: 4
Overall: 8.5
Comment: Cool idea! An interesting and creative twist on the theme. Technically, this is not perfect, but it's still a really good job. In particular, the red dress and the black ghost look a bit roughly blended. But, as I've spent an entire week, almost full time, getting perfect blends on ONE single mini (a 54 mm one, but still...), I know how much work that takes.

Morf
Theme: 5
Technique: 4
Overall: 9
Comment: I like the fact that there are double takes on the theme here, one direct and one a bit more metaphoric. Great brush work too, although I think that here too the size of the thing limits your technical side a bit. I would like to see you spend as much time on something smaller some time, just to see you excel a bit on the technical (as I know you can).

Darklord
Theme: 4
Technique: 3.5
Overall: 8
Comment: A fun entry once again! I love the little guy inside the washing machine. Technincally, this is a bit behind the other entries, but I love the fact that dedication, creativity and fighting spirit really pays off in getting you this far. I also think you've raised your bar quite a bit by pushing yourself this way.

Bexley
Theme: 4
Technique: 5
Overall: 9.5
Comment: Congratulations on reaching the final! I have a feeling you would have even if you had an opponent. This entry is excellent! It's fun, it looks good and it seems to be very, very nicely executed. If I'm going to nitpick I'd say that the back of the chick's robe doesn't look quite as smooth as most of the other stuff, but it's not a very big difference. Also, the wood on the barrels and buckets could possibly be done with a little more "personality" (i.e. introduce a bit of variation in the colours or add a few cuts or damages here and there). But, as I said... nitpicking.

ERICJ

Here is my judgment :)

Bexley
Theme: 4.5
Technique: 4.5
Overall: 9.5
Notes: Great scene and hilarious take on the theme, really nice work here. The painting is top notch, really hard to complain about anything in this piece. Nearly top scores (the top I save for pieces the really knock me out of my chair, but this is close!)

Darklord
Theme: 4.5
Technique: 4
Overall: 8.5
Notes: Another great scene and and funny take on the theme, great work. The blending could he better in some places although the metalics look great. Really nice result and great funny scene.

Morf
Theme: 4
Technique: 4.5
Overall: 9
Notes: Nice scene, although not quite as obvious a tie to the theme as some of the others, it works for me. The painting is really good and the freehand is impressive, great work there. The overall atmosphere of the piece is really nice as well.

Moavoamoatu
Theme: 4.5
Technique: 4
Overall: 9
Notes: Another great scene this round, and I think I have to give extra points for thinking up a laundry detergent ghost, which is awesome. The painting in a few places could use with a little smoothing, although overall very good. Another great entry this round.

Brushmistress
Theme: 4
Technique: 4.5
Overall: 9
Notes: Great mini! You've really created a fun one here, and the theme works as well, although perhaps not quite as well as some of the complete scenes in the other entries, it's still really nice. The painting work, particularly the freehand is amazing, really awesome work there.

Great piece love the work on the laundry details.. The mangle the bowl the clothes basket and stool are just really well done.. another great piece chief.. looking forward to something good in the final…

Darklord
Theme 5
Technique 4
Overall 9
You’ve done it again.. just made me laugh out loud .. spent ages looking at all the little details and that is what really makes this piece stand out the vikey kleins are class with the little lip mark and all …. The washing machine is top notch and the whole scene has that slight madness about it.. then I realised just how small them there snots are and it makes the whole thing even more amazing.. a few areas could do with a little tighter brush control here and there but overall the piece just works..

Morf
Theme 4
Technique 5
Overall 7
Lovely moody scene the lighting is just right.. dark enough to sell moonlight but light enough not to hide the models and what is going on..nice nods to the other painters and well always good. The interaction between the models is spot on blood splatter on the clothes and the clever two level interpretation of the theme add up to a great entry..

Moavoamoatu
Theme 5
Technique 4
Overall 8
Another nicely executed scene there.. funny write up and the idea rocks . the only thing just not sitting right for me is the railing or more specifically therock on the railing piece.. being a different colour to the other groundwork just kind of separates it from the piece and makes it look a little out of place.. overall though another great fun and well executed piece..Bravo

Brushmistress
Theme 4
Technique 4
Overall 7
Great job.. The pose has that perfect mood to it that kind of says to me straight away .. “your in trouble boy”,,,, another piece with excellent small details the high heels rock The empire head duster and the bubbles really rock look forward to the tutorial.
The tiled floor is fantastic and the freehand flowers and gingham head dress really well executed ..I suppose the only thing niggling me a touch (and it’s only slight) is the painting is a touch flat this time out…It’s kind of edging into cartoony but not quite there which results in a little flatness . but again as a complete piece .love it.

OH MY GOD. Finally after 4 seasons we will not have a winner of the female persuasion. Congratulations to the winners and the not winners, all of you did spectacular jobs.

Some scoring facts:

From the lowest to the highest score....ONLY a margin of 1.5

Best Total Score......Bexley and Moavoamoatu each with 52

Best TECHNIQUE: 13.5 Bexley, Morf, and Brushmistress....and only Bexley advances!

Best Theme: Moavoamoatu with 14
Darklord with 13.5

Best Overall Aesthetic: Bexley with 26

I have to say I'm more than stunned by the results.

Morf's entry, for instance, was my favorite of the round, and I thought he nailed the theme very subtly.

Brushmistress's entry was amazing, and taking nothing away from Darklord, thought she'd be a shoe in for the final.

Again, congrats to everyone. The final showdown is going to be a barn burner!

Waow it was close....top scores for all painters : that's a fantastic round and the last one might be bloody.

Thanks Jim for uploading the scores so fast.

What is the next theme now ?

I'm really sorry you had to go out Brushmistress, i loved your entry

I really love your entry Darklord, very humoristic, and I guess it was hard for judges this round.

Go Darklord - a Brit to win!

Hm. England, France, and the USA in the final.

Aw crap, the pressure's on now- I'm not just painting for me, I'm painting for my country!

Moavoamoatu
07-03-2008, 04:53 PM
Well, at least there are no Axis powers. Otherwise France would DNF, and I'd have to go over and help England. Then I'd retire, and my kid would begin ruining my country.

He would get to beat the Soviets, though, so that's cool.

If French didn't help you you would still be an english colony :D

Bexley
07-03-2008, 04:56 PM
And if we hadn't returned the favor, you'd be speaking German and have no Jewish friends. ;)

Ok so I'm going to have a problem this round. You all have made it about counrty so I should cheer for Bexley but DL is part of WAMP and so am I so I should cheer for him. What to do? I take bribes.;)

Bexley
07-03-2008, 05:31 PM
Sorry, all my cash is going to bribe judges.

I tried not to make it about country, but Moa saw my post before I deleted it. I was trying to just make a joke about there being no Axis powers and the contest playing out like WWII, but upon re-reading it, I saw that it was a little more condescending than I had ntended.

Don't worry...we all understood. BTW it's an international final round ;)

So will it be english speaking vs french, or Europe vs USA, or male vs male :D (I am sad for Brushmistress but Darklord's entry was fantastic, that's the rule)...I just want one thing : if Bexley wins the final he will have to show us his face !!!!!

Darklord
07-03-2008, 05:48 PM
i hope he doesnt have to show something else if he doesnt!! not that it will be a problem as he aint gonna win

Show my face? I'm on the last page of the current FFG catalog, painting a Gommorian Emasculator.

You can still cheer for me. I assure you, the most I'd ever show was my face.

Congrats to the finalists, and most of all the Darklord!!! I know you had some serious adversity to work through this round.

It would appear that Ogres are the kiss of death for me in the semi-finals. Great round guys, and I'm sorry to the ladies for letting us down.:o:

Wow, I'm a little bummed that there are no ladies to carry on our fine tradition of domination, but that's no fault of Brushmistress' as she gave a valiant effort indeed. Congrats to the finalists, and to all the folks in this round which was very dramatic and interesting both in the results of the miniatures and the scoring!

Wow, I'm a little bummed that there are no ladies to carry on our fine tradition of domination

1- Brusmistress didn't win because she forgot her whip

2- It's a shame a woman couldn't win a dirty laundry theme ;)

3- I am sure Bexley is a woman, that's why he wears a mask to hide it :D

4- Women can't always win IP , let men win sometimes too

5- I am not a woman, sorry.

Nah, it's about time that one of the guys had a shot at this title. Though just _one_ of the guys, the ladies will be back on the case next time. ;->

It's a holiday weekend here and I'm nice and mellow, so I'm just going to let the women = laundry comment slide... ;->
