Great review for a great game. That was one of my 'must have' purchases at Gencon last year.

Funny, but I basically ignored it at GenCon....I wish I would have paid more attention to them there. Oh well, sometimes, I'm a bit slow on the uptake, but I usually get there in the end.
Thanks for the comments!
I'm surprised you missed them, sv, I believe they had Jenny the Farmgirl working at the booth. ;->

Wait, there's a game that goes with the farm girl?!?!
Yeah, when I mapped out my Thursday Rush through the Gencon hall their booth was my first visit. We've been playing LNoE ever since. It's fast and fun!!

Excellent boardgame, I have it too.
A good read, thank you. A friend of mine is actually bringing that to play at game night this evening, so quite timely as well.

YAY! I'd be very interested to know your impressions of the game itself Skya.
Honestly, I'm not that experienced as a 'gamer', so I could be way off base.
I did manage to put a plug for Wyrd into my review, so I don't feel so bad, unashamedly pimping my blog here.....

Sounds like this year you need to get Eric to man the booth for a few hours so you can do a good tour of the hall and make sure you don't miss the best booth babes. ;->
@sv - you crack me up, literally!

I would say it's easily the best zombie game out there. It's really well balanced, too. Nearly every game I've played has come down to the last turn or two with the odds of winning being just about even at that point, after all kinds of back-and-forth.
The best thing about it, though, is how well it represents its genre- it very frequently, without forcing the game to do so, sets up little scenarios that come right out of the movies it attmepts to recreate. My favorite was one a coworker had described. Actually, lemme see if I can find his post about it... ah, here:
"In last night’s game, one such moment occurred very late in the game when I, playing the zombies and having the surviving heroes completely surrounding, played “This Could Be Our Last Night on Earth,” a card that causes a male and female character in the same space to lose their turns, for obvious reasons. It was perfectly in genre, perfectly timed for maximum drama, and was basically going to win me the game. What I had forgotten was that one of the priest character’s special abilities is immunity to that particular card. Since he was the last male in play, it didn’t work; I was out of luck. It was a huge moment. The fact the priest had resisted the forces of temptation even though cards played earlier had caused him to lose his faith was icing on the cake."
Little scenarios like that set themselves up all the time, and it's just because the game mechanics end up working out that way, not because it's being forced on you by oddball clunky rules.

I gave the rules a read-thru in preparation for trying it out tomorrow. I think having the soundtrack CD playing is a must for the first game (we'll see if it gets used in future sessions).
If it plays well, I will be buying the expansion.

We played again last night, and I have some confusion about some of the rules. I wish they had a FAQ over at their site.
I even got my wife to be the zombies....
and she kicked the 'heroes' collective butts.
My hubby's read up a lot on the game at Board Game Geek and such, I could pass along some questions if you'd like?

I'd actually appreciate that! Now, if I could recall what those questions were....hmmmmmm
Turning 40 sucks!!!
If I can recall them, I'll send along a PM.
I'll keep an eye out. We're away for the weekend, so if you don't hear back for a few days I promise we'll get the answers to you next week.

We played the introductory scenario (kill 15 zombies in 15 turns). We (the humans) did really well at drawing the gun cards, so we killed all the needed zombies in about 11 turns.
I enjoyed it. Next time, we'll ad in the advanced rules and try one of the other scenarios.
