Just an old retired guy who used to paint but still enjoys collecting and viewing other peoples' works. The Iron Painter competition is always entertaining and a source of great pieces of art. I have to confess to a certain fondness for the art of Brushmistress, since she claims I was her inspiration back in a time when I could paint better than her - LOL - those days are long since gone. Thanks for letting me peek in on your art and competitions!

Welcome to Wyrd! What bridge did you crawl out from under and are you going to share your horde of painted minis?

You're never too old to paint if you're too young to die. Seriously though, as I'm pushing fifty the biggest thing I notice that makes painting more challenging is the deterioration of the close up vision. And after spending due time on the whole myriad of techniques (wet blending, layering, etc.) nowadays I just experiment a whole helluva lot. Sometimes a hit, sometimes a miss, but always fun. anyway, welcome. As intenet kinda places go, this is the best I've run into so far (especially if you're of the painter/modeler bent.)

Wahoo the average age marker creeps up a touch more... I think that's what makes this a great forum to hang around on the fact that at 33 I often feel young ;)
Good to know that you recognise the talent of someone you yourself inspired kind of the full circle thing.. hope to see some of your work or at the very least some comments from a viewers perspective on the comp entries...welcome aboard.

Have to agree with this, especially the vision thing, but then I've left 50 far behind...

Welcome to a damn good site.

Hi there OldTroll (or Ron as I know you!).
Ron has been a long time friend of mine, and was indeed the reason I started painting figures to a higher standard (I had knocked out a few space Orks in trade for pewter wizards before). I remember the first time I laid eyes on a Uriah Jacobson GW mini he had painted, which was in a showcase in the store my husband owned, and I thought "my god - I want to be able to write words on a 28mm thingy!". He has an extensive collection of my models (31 pieces to be precise), to the point where I often have to remind him it's OK for other people to buy some to ya know. Since he's a bit shy about posting his work, I think I'll sneak a few photos of his stuff and put them up here (much to his chagrin I'm sure ;)). I'm please to say he's still got the Uriah Jacobson, and I look at him often.
