Well, it was sort of the usual for me. I had the dragon already, and it was partly assembled. Two weeks would have been plenty of time. Then life gets in the way, etc. etc.
I need to just assume life will get in the way, and plan very simple entries. But, y'know... you get a good idea, and it just happens to involve a huge model or eight small ones or whatever...

I don't think I'm going to have mine completely finished by tomorrow. If I hadn't been working 14 - 18 hours a day I could have completed it, but it was too ambitious given the extremely limited amount of time I could dedicate to it.
Tomorrow I'll post whatever I have done.
@Moa: let me know where to send the $5 to, please. I don't have a lot of minis, so I'd really like to keep what I have. Hope that's ok.
It's too bad you can't finish it. I was (and still is) a very nice diorama. At least try to place one miniature in it. My Paypal address is the same as my email address (check my profile) but the judges might give you a chance.

Well, that's it my entry is in, photo isn't up to much.
Hey Darklord I thought you were going to thrash me!
Not only should I beat my previous 25 score but I might even beat you...
Damn, if only I could work out how to put a collection of shots into one frame.

Well sad to say Im not going to finish this one..DNF-Jeff you can call me :P
Ive just been to busy to think about this and Im also trying to get a Games day entry started for Chicago.. so maybe this next one Ill be in again when I get caught up and I have more time..

My entry is in.
There was more to do to it (the table against the wall is supposed to have bottles and beakers on it, the minis needed a decent paint job, there were supposed to be other scenic elements), but time was something that I didn't have a lot of.
Good luck in the future rounds, Moa!
Now it's off to grab a shower and get ready for another week of working too many hours.

I'm not a DNF! Even if I'm not even in the competition anymore...
I know it really doesn't matter much for anything, but I did but something in the "I Think I Can" Gallery.

05-18-2008, 06:11 PM
Well, it ain't the piece I'm most proud of in my collection - but it's uploaded and as finished as it's going to get. At least I didn't DNF!
I don't think there's any excuses left that you haven't made, Vee-Tutu. Oh, wait... your dog can still eat, that's always a good one. Excuses, excuses, excuses...

Good luck in the future rounds, Moa!
Thanks Hinton. I left a comment. I really appreciate your fairplay and I hope you could post this entry agan later on when you have totally finished what you wanted to do. Believe me I don't consider it as a DNF as you did an excellent job : your diorama rocks.
Hinton

Thanks for the kind words, Moa (both here and in the gallery comments). Hopefully things will ease up for me in the next couple of weeks; if they do, I'll go back, polish this up and post it as a truly completed work.
I figure I did better this round than the last, completion-wise; my first round entry wasn't even completely painted.
In regards to your comment about the lightning, I did seriously consider doing it with a more monochrome palette (to give it more of a flavor of the original Frankenstein movie) and having it appear as though a bolt of lightning had just flashed. Just didn't think I could pull it off very well.
This entry definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone, though. As I said in the beginning, this is bigger than anything I've ever tried, I worked with green stuff for the first time (and unsure how that would go) and forced me to think in larger terms than just a 25MM base or small square of foam. It was really great and I had a lot of fun working on it.

Whew. Photo time, then I sleep. Until tomorrow afternoon.
My Paypal address is the same as my email address (check my profile) but the judges might give you a chance.
Actually, since I went through it last year, going through Hey give me another chance is still considered losing ;(

Yeah, Commander Y, the dog eating it was the only thing that didn't go wrong:-
1 Because I don't have a dog;
2 Because even if I did, it'd probably turn its nose up at that bag of sh*te....
Hmmm... I'm a big, hairy arsed bloke but actually feel closer to crying than I have in years - I won't though.
Well, just to finish it all off - this time I got the base sorted early but in the process of removing the minis from their holes in it, the pins must have bent, so none of them went back where they were supposed to, so the composition was way off and thus I couldn't even take a photo to show the sculpting work or why I'd bothered to resculpt in the first place.
Oh and the only pics I could get didn't even show the tiny bit of nice painting I managed to pull off....
Thank God it's over though - will have a bash at doing something MODEST for the `I think I can's and I'll be all cheerful and everything.

I'm out! I simply can't finish this time around. :( Too little time left, if there were anothe day, definately. But as there is not, I can't. I'm going to bed now, nice entries everyone. Maybe I'll manage to be more iron next time.

Grrr! Photography is usually the least of my worries. I could not get a picture to turn out with colors that were correct. The green kept looking blue, and tweaking the color balance in photoshop just made everything go green.
I will have to take it to work and use the setup there. I have a really good camera, but the one at work is still worth four of mine.

Well, at least now I can get 'round to sculpting my Cadwallon character [Whack! "Ow!"].
Hinton: I think the main problem with the GS is that when you're doing large areas, you have to wait for each layer to dry before doing the next. Not much of a problem generally but not tight-deadline friendly. And it's optically a bit weird too - hard to see what it really looks like. Add to that its distinct properties at certain stages as it sets, coupled with constant interruptions....
Think I might have to try the ol' Fimo - if it's good enough for the Infinity sculptors, it's more than good enough for a craphead like me! ;)
Bexley: Cheers for the support dude! I was serious about organising a `Hey, let's paint our Red Lionesses' thing - be worth seeing if folk are interested.
Przemas: Really sorry you DNFed - you are one of my top favourite painters.
Commander Y: Well the only competition now is the bet to see whether you beat me by more than 40 points.... ;) This is all just a subtle ploy to slide Nomads your way, to convert you to Infinity... shame I drew the short straw to pretend, publicly, to be a complete talentless fish....
So, I'll be needing an address to send some Spanish artistry to. But be warned, my powers will have doubled next time we meet [Vwummm!].

You'd have to have already started one, though. If we lure in people who haven't already, then we'll just make them hate us, once they've seen what we've gotten them into. However, the only "friendly" deadline for that thing is "half past never."

Well, I uploaded a picture of my entry in time, but I'm pretty much ashamed of it. :( I'm not happy with the painting, the sculpting, or the photography. Trying to paint two miniatures in two weeks was a bit over-optimistic for me.
If I'm looking at the gallery correctly, it looks like I will be going to round three. So if tradition holds, I will be matched against the ultimate winner of this Iron Painter in the coming round. :) I wonder who the lucky Iron Painter will be? :D

There is a trick, even for small areas : use a hair drier so you don't have to wait.
It works with all miniatures except Alkemy and Tanhauser miniatures as they are made with soft plastic.
Do it softly with hard plastic (like Games Workshop) or resin miniatures : cool and not hot air in this case.

More likely, I will end-up being paired with Brushmistress, she'll beat me, and go on to win IP5. Just based on recent IP history. :D

Obviously there was some horrible domestic accident while Eric was painting the guest room. You know the kind where once the color's on the walls and it dries, his wife sends him out for a totally different color... That kind of horrible accident.
