liz - I hope you have a great trip! I went twice in the 80's and had a fantastic time. I'm wimping out of IP for travel also, we leave for 10 days on the weekend. Just a boardgame convention in Ohio, nowhere near as cool as what you're doing, but it was enough to make me DNF last year, so I'm not even going to sign up. I plan to heckle any men foolish enough to do so from the sidelines, though. ;->

Man, after joining this forum at the tail end of Femme Fatale I'd decided that I'd try to participate in the following contests in the whole spirit of the forum thing. But as I'd said in another thread, I'd injured my right rotater cup somehow about a week ago and although it's feeling a little better I can only paint (or type!) a few minutes at a time. I'm hoping to be a last minute entry if my arm is feeling up to it by the start if that's okay.

More seriously I have an old crappy one (5 megpix) and found the trick as the macro is awful on mine : take high resolution pictures at a distance of 30-60cm and then zoom in with Photoshop or another photo editing software.

I know what you mean in a way, I guess if you can get somewhere quiet where you are not under mortor attack two or three times a day then the routine can have its advantages.

I guess one advantage of being in theatre is that you can pritty much get on with the job they are paying you for without all the crap that goes with it if you were still serving. Only down side being when you need to take the kit down for maintenance and then it is an arguement with the powers that be :)

Generally, each round lasts two weeks (as you said). After that, it's usually about a week for judging with new match-ups and theme posted on the following Monday. So, say about 3 weeks total for each round.

The last contest with 60 original sign ups went 5 rounds at 3 weeks each.. or something like that..

At 60 it actually went 6 rounds. A little insane, but keep in mind that only four people will make it to round five and only two people will make it to the final round.

I believe in order to shorten it initially so that folks aren't captured for months on these competitions that Jim has given some thought to doing a three way for the first one or two rounds if it gets to be a significant group of folks.

Not sure, something I brought up/spoke to him about, but as always, Jim is the big cheese on these things!

Actually a best of 3 first round would reduce you chances of making it to the second round . It would give you a 1 in 3 chance of advancing instead of a 1 in 2.

I know it would annoy me to no end to come in 2nd out of three, knowing that had I been paired up, I might have still advanced, depending on which of the two I was paired with. Besides, since Vike and the judges don't (can't) enter, how else can they prove they have any iron, except to arrange and judge all of this? :P

I am another one against the three way idea, half the fun is watching the draws and waiting on results, and I just think the triple contenders would dilute that and take a lot of fun and anticipation out of it.

Another vote for one on one - it's a fine old tradition (like a joust or duel) and elegant; rather than crazy, three way flailing.... Even the pairs throw up some `unfairness'/luck so the extra variable chucked in with a three way would amplify that too much... and endurance is a factor, as mentioned already.

Ummm, it would put an unpleasant vibe into the smack talk as well, when you'd get the inevitable ganging up, in/out group thing forming too (perceived or real)....

So the match-ups and theme will be announced around midnight in Blighty - cool, will give me a few hours to worry before going to bed and not getting any sleep....

Man, in the last few months I've filled my house with minis from loads of different companies and I just know that the first theme is going to be something that suggests a GW mini (for me).... :(

I've left the bitterness and hate behind (ex GW Dublin employee...) but kind of vowed that my first ever finished mini, for me, totally my way wouldn't be GW... I actually gave my GW minis and hobby stuff away in disgust a few years ago when I left GW....

So that would mean I'd have to finish another mini first, then start on my IP entry... still win though!:tongue2: Haven't been this excited and nervous for a long time... it's the waiting.... Ummm... I'm this far away from just going off into some random, disjointed ramble (gabblegabblegabble...) so I'll leave it there!

Well I tried for about the third night in a row to finish up some work and can still only paint (or type or drive) with my right arm for about five minutes at a time. While the shoulder isn't as bad my upper arm is now kinda inflamed also (it was my 30 day "try out" for a new job and I had to push it, luckily tomorrow is day 30.) As I had said in my post many pages ago I had hoped to be a little more up to snuff by the time this started but ended up on the list anyway. But I'm gonna have to pass instead of saying to myself I could've done better if not for my shoulder. And I have to get better cause that primered Lilith is just sitting there on my desk tauntingly............

well, we had 61 people sign up , but we also had like 20-25 no shows for the first round too. So, that ended up being about 40.

And we had about 2 no shows per round afterwards (unfortunately including myself when I got sick and then also had to leave town on a business thing).

So, even though it will take a while, it also will whitle itself down a bit too.

Reason I ask is that I only get access to my confuser and photo set up at weekends due to working away :(

The ending dates will always try to be on the Sunday two weeks after we start a round, and I like to start the rounds on a Friday (or late thursday)...so I hope that meets your needs!
