Stumbled across this (http://www.brushthralls.com/Symbols/) over at Brushthralls. Wow--for someone with no art training such as myself, this article was a revelation. The use of "negative space" is brilliant! Of course, actual implementation of the technique is another matter, but at least I understand the concept. I hope you all find it as useful as I did!
