When does the snowfall end?

I'll accept that the snowfall effect is cute, but when does it go away or how do I turn it off?

Firefox is wasting an extra 70% of my system resources just to animate the snow (compared to non-snow websites) causing problems with everything else I do on the computer. (ripping MP3s from a 50 minute CD should not take 45 minutes)

Even on my super powerful Mac at work it would dog things down just a little bit. Besides, it made arcade games that much more confusing. ;)

I had no extra slow downs or anything. I'm using Safari 3.
Only thing was if the snow flakes blew across the screen a horizontal scroll bar would pop up then disappear.
No big problems or anything.
