Shouldn't it be LavronYor in red with his 41 instead of Althai with 38?

wow, that demonherald/paintminion matchup was brutal, 2 of my favorites in 1 battle, in fact paintminion was the 2nd highest result in the whole round, but sadly won't go on. I hope we can see a revenge of paintminion next time though!

The "give me another chance" ruling only goes into effect when we are past round one, and have an ODD number of contestants left.

The person who gets that is determined by the 'highest non winning score'. Paintminion would have won it, but since we have an EVEN 26 advancers, she does not.

That has been the rule since the beginning. The ONLY reason for having that rule is to get an even number of entrants for the next round.

Is the next theme going to be posted tomorrow or sometime over the weekend?

Then perhaps that should be stated more clearly in the rules thread.

Squig

Thank you for your input.

I have added an addendeum to the rules to make it clearer.

Also, I will direct your attention to These three parts of the rules:

Final notes/thoughts:

This activities main goal is just to have fun and build community spirit. Hopefully, there are no bumps in the road, but that may be too wishful thinking. If problems do arise, we will deal with it as fairly and honestly as possible.

We can tweak the rules as we proceed, if needed.

WYRD is graciously allowing us to host our fun here, providing judging, and even some great prizes, but ultimately this is my doing. If problems do arise and bad feelings need to be directed, make sure they are pointed at me, and not to the site.

I think I have administered the rules as fairly as I was able to. Again, let me reiterate...IF PROBLEMS ARISE, THEY ARE TO BE POINTED AT ME, AND NOT THE SITE.
Feel free to e-mail or PM me directly for this. My e-mail is supervike@yahoo.com

Thank you.

Just to reply to some of the PM's and other requests for feedback. I will try my best to comment on as many as I can in the next few days, what I was looking for, why I scored one way or another, etc... Always good to make this a learning process!

As for theme, as a general rule of thumb my Theme scoring was:

snowy/icey/winter themed base - 3 points
particularly well done base +.5
appropriately themed mini choice +.5
winter color palate in painting +.5
created a complete winter "ambiance", where I could almost feel the cold +.5
Creative, interesting, or humorous use of the theme +.5
No winter colors used at all -.5
sloppy/poorly/quickly done winter base -.5
particularly non-wintery mini choice -.5

there were some other factors as well, like my mood at the time ;) (just kidding!)

Wow, interesting results as always! There are a number of people I'm surprised will not be progressing to another round, but that's part of the unique challenge of IP. While part of me is disappointed I won't see what other wonders they'll come up with, another part of me is relieved... ;->

To my opponent Hiliter I'd like to say well-fought/painted!

Thanks everyone who's commented. I think the comments and the votes I've received quite rightly point out that my entry isn't a showcase of masterful paint techniques. Partly that was time, partly it was concept. I'm reasonably happy with my progress in painting, but lately I have been very dissatisfied with my base work, so I did really focus the bulk of the attention on setting a scene more than painting, and I'm very happy to see that a lot of people seem to like it.

In the event anyone wants to try my technique for the ice, I would suggest doing a few things I didn't. I'm suggesting this based on the horrible shrunkeness that has occurred just since last weekend. I think the idea would still work, but if I do it again I'd mix a large batch of Future + ink/paint and keep it in a container. I'd wait until all base elements were thoroughly dry/set before applying any Future. I'd give each layer of Future several days or longer to set, and then when I thought it hit the proper level and was done shrinking and fully set I'd wait maybe even a couple of weeks before starting to mess with the surface. I think all the brushing on of sealer and what-have-you before it was set somehow deflated everything.

You forgot to add "+.5/ $50 bribe"

if I may kindly ask the almighty incorruptible Judges, the Asgardian Ritual, the Divine Californian and foremost the Father from the Lush Hills of the Georgian Woodstock, when will we, mere mortals, learn the new theme and the new pair-up?

(for all the other suckers, I just got +15 on the next voting. watch me and learn)

Can I just add my thanks to the judges. A bit disappointing to get through on a DNF but then I may not have got through at all. Looking forward to the next round. Well done to all the others who got through, but don't get too comfortable, I havn't shown my best yet. :D

Well, I guess I have established myself as the underdog. I thought I could woo the judges with a naked chick on a moose. I guess my next opponent is just going to have to ask themself, "is this guy hustling?" And to answer that, my wife would say, "Nah, he's too stupid to try to pull something off like that!"

Let's all just remember as I drive off to the post office in the glorious evening sunset with the rays of sun shining magnificently through the big fluffy clouds and the fall leaves all dancing in the breeze--okay, 40mph wind here right now that can rip a package from your hands if you're not careful and blow leaves in your eyes that make you tear up...

....that I BEAT everyone here except Demonherald! And finished my Reaper commisison, and dragon, in time for the MMSI show while completing my entry.

I'm happy with my entry...not perfect, but in two weeks I can't do perfect--yet. Demonherald--I told you I really liked your piece, and you finished it early too! Congrats. Now go beat the rest of these puppies and prove you're worthy!

More math?

Can somebody double check this, but I think I found two miscalculataions, although it doesn't effect the outcomes of any matches: I have Prezmus at 44 pts with vike has 43.5 and I have Kenan with 42 with vike getting 41.5.

I'm getting cross-eyed looking at numbers, can somebody check these?

Also, thanks for the great job from the judges. EricJ is the harshest scorer giving an average of 14.52 out of 20 per painter, Ritual was the middleman averaging 14.66 and Frustrated Father was the pushover averaging a score of 14.69 per painter.

:D OK, time to look at something other than numbers now....

Actually that's amazingly consistent, well done judges! I would almost expect a greater spread just based on personal taste, biases and the like, but only a .17 difference between all of them? Nicely done!

Oh, and did I mention I'm moving on to the next round...:tongue2:

According to my spreadsheets, Przemus has a total of 44 points and Kenan has a total of 42 points. I haven't cross-checked any other scores.

I noticed that FF and Ritual gave me the exact same scores in each category, while Eric was a big meanie and gave me the lowest.. 3.5 for theme, Eric? You have no sense of humor! :aetsch:

There are differences though... I had Malebolgia as the winner of his face-off whereas Eric and Nathan didn't (by looking at the scores now... none of us considered the match-ups when we gave out the scores).

URG!

I very sincerely apologize to both Prezmus and Kenan. It, thankfully, doesn't affect anything.

I am at home now, so I can't see what i did wrong on my handy dandy spreadsheet, but most likely I missed a .5 on each of them when inputing the scores. I am very glad it doesn't effect anyones advancing (i am waiting for that mistake with clenched buttocks)....but still it's inexcusable. I really apologize, and will try and be more careful.

I will correct the big board.

Thanks Duende for pointing it out. I tend to rely on you folks for catching those errors too often, but I am very thankfully you do.
