View Full Version : Factions

I just want to know where people think some of the mini's will go and what factions they may form?

1. ? Faction

Seamus
Sybelle
3 Rotting Belles

2.Steampunk

Ramos
Arachnid Spiders
Leveticus

3.Witchunters

Sonia
Samael
?

4. Necro Faction

Nicodem
Mortimer
3 Zombie Punks

5. Jungle Faction

Injun Joss
Marcus
Sabretooth Cerberus
?

6. Ortega Gunslingers

Perdita
Francisco
Santiago
Nino
Papa Loco

All of these are just my guesses. I am getting excited about the game though. It is really fun being part of something that is still very new and seeing it all unfold.

The kids have obviously got to go into a faction. Killjoy I have no idea where he's going. Maybe with the guys from the morgue as a sort of flesh golem that they pieced together. Seems like there are a bunch of wild cards out there. Bishop, Misaki, Victoria, Taelor and Vasyl don't seem like they fit anywhere. In the eternal words of Tom Petty " The waaaaiiiiiting is the hardest part".

I think Necro will be in the Necro faction and Victoria in the Witch Hunters. For some reason I think Bishop can fit in the "Jungle" faction.

I think Taelor and Misaki may go into the Mercenary faction.

Pandora and the ghosts?

I sort of see some sort of cenobyte-styled nanny/babysitter for the kids...

Oooh I love wild speculation :)
I dont think anything can be called a necro faction really... there's a lot of different necro factions ;)

the Ortega family is a given, I also have the idea they are the first game specific designed miniatures ? therefore being released as the whole *faction* (while words of a wyrd game have been around for a while, Im not sure if all was initially designed with that in mind.)

Seamus, sybelle and the rotten belles are together too offcourse.

as is nicodem, samuraipunk zombies and the digger.

so far for the confirmed and (if the 5 is correct.) finished groups.

I think Killjoy was also confirmed, but I cant remember, it was either with the Doc's group or with the Kids. I think its the Doc, and maybe Bishop will go the same route after a redesign ?
Hamelen, would be logical to lead the kids considering the fairytales, but stylistically Im not too sure were he stands.
tough offcourse it could be pandora too.

indeed the 2 witchhunters probably go with viktoria.

I actually dont think ramos and leviticus belong to the same faction, because they both have this *I lead* thing... well not exactly that, but they are like green and blue put together, not the best combo.

I kinda hope misaki will be joined by more oriental personalities, just as I hope Injun joss would just get more native buddies and the Beast master gets more Afro buddies. its so often done that the ethnic minorities are grouped as the *same thing* but each have very distinct backgrounds, then some wishfull thinking : Baron samedi leading the afro group, Ive forgotten his wifes name, but offcourse she is needed as well. offcourse there are many roads to follow there.

uhm, the ghosts, zombies, shrooms.. Im not so sure these are part of malifaux, they are not characters for starters. but I hope the imps get some names slapped on them to make them fit in :p

Taelor could go as Ramos assistant (I really think she has some engineer side job :)) the rest being forged things.

Vasyl, Im not too sure, more vampires ? or asylum escapees.

ok, did I miss anything ? :)

Remember, most of the earliest Wyrd minis were created before a game idea was even in the works so they weren't created with "what faction should this one go into?" in mind.

Although, I wouldn't mind seeing a Bishop re-do since I've never really been a fan of his knock-kneed stance, but the rest of him is awesome!

Any chance, FF?

As I was reading through this, an idea popped into my head.

I know that the Wyrd game is going to be a skirmish type of game, but what about the possibility of creating some kind of role-playing adventure modules around some of these characters? You could create some that are designed specifically for certain characters and some that are more generic in nature, but still based on the Wyrd world. Just a thought.

Good idea or no?

Vytis

Ooo, yeah, roleplaying in the world would be cool. My friend and I have used Wyrd figs (his, not mine, I dont have enough yet) for Deadlands, as a good many of them fit into that universe like a cliched metaphor.

I think that Seamus' faction would be sort of a genetic manipulation faction that would also be allied with or include the morgue doc and the assistant. The Doc and Assistant have been connected directly to Killjoy when the announcement for their fig came (concept art perhaps?) And Seamus and the Rotten Belles aren't off course, indeed, as according to FF's announcement the Rotten Belles were created by Seamus himself. And, well, genetically engineering seems to be what Seamus would do..he does have a saw hanging out of his doc bag. And, it being a universe called Wyrd, well, the most unlikely would be allies, though an undertaker and gravedigger seem to be a likely combo, and perhaps they are getting the bodies for the experiments..

I think Taelor would be with the steampunks..that hammer and her right arm power glove thing screams mechanical aid. Plus, she'd need some magic to defend her casually exposed skin (unsensible, these fantasy women, it would seem). Bishop's redo would be tidy, removing those blasted knees..with you on that Duende. I put him as a merc who'll work wherever the dough is. Same with Viktoria and her technicolour swords. Hamelin strikes me to be similar in visual style and concept to Sonia so I think hes a witch hunter.

There are plenty of places for the imps, mushrooms, and zombies..wizards need something to do their dirty work, right? And, the samurai punk zombies, well, they seem natural enemies of Misaki, so maybe she's her own faction, where my steampunk elves might live..ooo...

As for the children of the corn, there are probably other family members we haven't seen yet..a twisted, evil, addams family without morals that will make you bleed and not just scare. And then make you bleed again. And again.

Rampant speculation with some tiny facts is always fun! Especially if I haven't had coffee yet..but those are my initial thoughts.

Nathan said Viktoria is going to be a wild-card type of character who can work for almost anyone. A mercenary, if you will.

Oddly enough...the rampant speculation is really quite helpful, a lot of the characters are already set, but not all, and as such some of the speculation is actually bringing up ideas that at least I hadn't thought of before...you just never know what might stick :D

Don't forget it was mentioned elsewhere about using Hamelin with the kids, as a possiility. and I see no one has mentioned Rasputina yet, she needs Yeti henchman.

I actually really start to like the idea with hamelin and the kids, he looks like an evil (wich in this case often means generic) history/science/math teacher anyway ;)

well rasputina has allready been said to be going with beasts/monsters mostly (if not only.) so not much speculation there.

if the unnamed groups will be used too, then stick the imps with pandora and stick a (please humorous/comical) demon/devil as fifth wheel with them. as both pandora and the demon/devil are rather big miniatures, it is fitting with the imps (whom are smaller) to keep the balance.

I think the Catacomb Prowlers, (The Imps, the more comical Zombies, the Apparitions and the Dire mushrooms) are a separate part not considered part of the regular Wyrd releases.

That and i think Marcus, being the Beastmaster, should be all beasts with him. Of course i could be biased because i think Wyrd needs a cool critters pack.

That's kind of what was giving me the idea for a role-playing game based in the Wyrd universe. You could use some of those "random" miniatures (imps, apparitions, etc) as encounters in various places. In addition, you could possibly advance story lines by using adventures solely for some of the "main" characters.

Also, you could maybe even have a mixture of the two: a group of role-players playing one faction making their way through the adventure towards a confrontation with the "bad guys" controlled by a GM, with skirmishes along the way with other factions.

Xenon_Wulf

Indeed, cool idea.

As for Rasputina, Nathan did state during Gencon that an Ice Golem was in the works for her. That leaves us 3 more positions. I'd say some sort of arctic-themed werewolf/bear (thick fur, sharp claws) would work, along with some being brandishing ice-sculpted weapons (yeah, concept isn't all that original, but I trust Nathan and Eric to do something unexpected with it).

I'd expect Rasputina's magic to be drain-based, along with movement slowing/stopping effects. The golem would be the "beat stick" - tough strong and slow. The were-beast would be fast yet fragile, but able to do massive amounts of damage to enemy stragglers.

Still leaves us two slots. A ranged unit (the aforementioned ice-weapon wiedling troop?) and a camouflaged unit?

Yes, this is all rather off the top of my head and quite sudden too - it's just that I've got an overly-large fondness for ice-themed minis. Must be because of where I'm from (as a local poet/folk-singer once wrote/sang: "My country isn't a country - it's winter!").

I really like Rasputina. Based on the way she is portrayed see looks to be bright. I kinda think of her as Natasha in Rocky and Bullwinkel. I think she needs a squat dwarven kinda guy. The ice golem she controls and maybe a couple of penguins with rockets for her second in command(HAH HAH inserted for those people that saw Batman 2). May be he could get some kodiak bears.

If not a short guy then a big Eskimo dude maybe trollish. If that was the case I would go with a couple of ice imps as his pets that look out for him and slow stuff down as he pounds on them with a harpoon or wood axe.

Just some thoughts.

If Rasputina had penguins AT ALL then she'd move into my First list. Someone not at all unsimilar to the Penguin himself as a sidekick, great idea..and if one of the penguins had a trenchcoat and a fedora, I think I'd need 15 of them..

Hmm... Wouldn't be too fond of tophats in an ice-themed army, as there are alread plenty of tophats to go around in other factions.

Penguins could be interesting, though (were-penguin?). Something like an Inuit with an ice imp on his shoulder could also fit in.

The way I see it for a snow/Ice faction you can have a dwarf dude (as a lot of dwarven tales come from the Scandinavian countries), a bear/werebear (Kodiak or Polar), to be honest though, Penguins are only found at the south pole, were the bears are found at the north. Although something akin to a selkie (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selkie) might be cool

Penguins are only found at the south pole...

Not so...

From Wikipedia (the Great End-All-Be-All of All Knowledge!)

Although all penguin species are native to the southern hemisphere, they are not, contrary to popular belief, found only in cold climates, such as Antarctica. In fact, only a few species of penguin actually live so far south. At least ten species live in the temperate zone; one lives as far north as the Galápagos Islands: the Galápagos Penguin.

Besides, in a fantasy world, I'm pretty sure they live anywhere they want to! :D

Other ideas for the ice witch, who is a favourite of mine also... mechanical or steampunkily cyborg sasquatch or polar bears. A sharp and spiky ice golem. Walruses with frickin laser beams on their heads. I also like the idea of a Wyrd take on an Inuit character.

Penguins are far too cute to explode. They must be something else.

I love the equatorial penguin of the Galapagos..I always imagine the little buggers in sunglasses and a straw hat, sitting in a beach chair with a frozen cocktail and listening to Jimmy Buffett. They have to, they are on vacation from a cold climate, right?

Seen it, of course :) And Happy Feet. And March of the Penguins. That all goes without saying, really.

And a surefire way to end up with several penguins is to let your children know about how much you dig them. I have 7 penguins now. They all have names, too.
