Goodman Games is throwing their hat in the ring for miniatures as well (banner year it seems!) with creating miniatures based off their pregenerated D&D characters for Dungeon Crawl Adventures.

These are cute in an old fashioned late 80's way but just don't stand up to the industry at the moment it seems. Dwarf is the best of them all, except for his boots.

Nice paintjobs, but they do seem a bit "old school" to me--and coming from one who was painting in the 80's....not so much a compliment. :vb_tongue

It's the whole 2-d mold thing. These are rather flat compared to most of what's out there now.
The best is the dwarf and I like the boots, they are characterful. I don't like how his arm seems to get really skinny before going into the giant glove.
The archer's not bad though he'd look better looking where he's shooting.
The ninja lizard is just awful.

You can get a dynamic character in one piece I think these days, but it takes a bit more work, but more importantly, the miniature itself needs to have a good bit of character to pull it off. Most of the Wyrd line will be multiple pieces due to wanting to keep a dynamic with them.
I think these are some cute miniatures to be truthful, and the price is about right, so nothing too over the top there. The archer and the dwarf are the best of the two, and they have an over the top cartoon look to them in general, thus the larger gloves/feet. Not going to appeal many, but I am interested in seeing what they plan for the future.

I quite like them - they're definitely reminiscent of something like Heroquest from the 80's. Although some of the anatomy is a little off (BIG hand!!!), their simplicity and style is quite endearing, although Spyglass do that sort of thing with much more skill and grace.
Some sculptors and companies seem to want to go over the top with detail these days. It's the sculptural equivalent of a ten minute guitar solo and can get a little boring to paint because you are almost entirely dictated to.

That needs to be turned into a quote and posted somewhere - quite well said Scott.

definately feel like throwback minis, but something charming about them at the same time :)

I've got to get me a pair of them dragon boots!!
I agree with what the others said. I'm all about character in minis, and I think a few of these have that.

I also think better paint jobs might add to the character here, enhance that part of their appeal

Haha! Everybody is spot on!
If you guys have seen or even read any of the Dungeon Crawl modules they are a nostalgic take on the First Edition AD&D adventures right down to the art and layouts. They even got art by Erol Otus to make it even more "authentic".
It stands to reason that thes figures would look just like stuff that came out during that time period also! Brilliant.
Anybody remember Heritage miniatures? :vb_tongue
