View Full Version : Wyrd Miniatures does .... MINIATURES!
Frustrated Father
11-15-2005, 03:45 AM
We are pleased to announce that Wyrd Miniatures is now releasing, for presale, its own line of 32mm 'heroic' scaled miniatures with both the gamer and the painter in mind.
Sculpted by the talented Edgar Ramos, and cast in high quality metal, we seek to bring a different style of miniature to the table that will engage the painter and can easily be used for dynamic characters in many table top skirmish games.
The miniatures are currently in production casting and during this time we are offering 10% off the entire line of Wyrd Miniatures until the first shipments are received, estimated to arrive the last week of November.
I now present to you the first four of the Wyrd Miniature line, Bishop, Baby Kade, Killjoy and Viktoria. These are only the first in many exciting releases planned for the coming months.

This is a VERY exciting moment for us here at Wyrd Miniatures as we have striven to reach this point for several long months now and it is finally a great relief to be able to share with you all of our hard work and toils from behind the scenes of Wyrd Miniatures.
First and foremost there are a core group of people that I would like to thank for helping shape Wyrd Miniatures up to this point, without their help, input and support this would have been all the harder in the bringing. Edgar Ramos, for believing in my vision for miniatures and for being such a great person as well as a fantastic sculptor (thanks Edgar!). Ann and Maya Morland of Wyvern Games who have helped immensely with ideas and keeping me focused as I bounced all over the place. Eric Johns, Anders Eklund, Scott Symonds and Laszlo Jakusovszky for their insight and their hard work behind the scenes on creating studio paint jobs for Wyrd Miniatures as well helping with the hundred other things that I had to learn in order to make this a reality.
Now that all that 'mushy' stuff is out of the way (hey, I'm emotionally excited right now), lets get on to some more detailed pictures of each of the miniatures! More below.

Well thats the best set of releases from a new company that I have ever seen.
There looks to be a mixture of styles in each individual figure with gothic horror standing out most.
Sculpting is superb.
Painting is superb.
Oh and where is my thanks for late night guinea pigging.:)
Best of luck with the venture, looking at these though I don't think you will need much.

(laughing) Ah yes, that was remiss of me to not mention that. A HUGE thanks to Mark for sending me money over and over and over and over (could go on another six or seven times) again while I managed to fiddle with the web shopping cart. I swear I'll refund all of it one of these days.

And thanks Mark, I appreciate the vote of confidence!

Cool store FF! I'll have to get some as soon as I have some extra money again (damn broken furnace!)
A couple of suggestions: Either make the "Shop" link open a new window or make the Wyrd logo in the Shop a link back to the home page here.
Put a link somewhere about info for payment options, as this is one of the first things I look for when shopping somewhere new. I need to know if Paypal's acepted or not (would you believe some sites DON'T take Paypal?), because that's where I keep my "fun" money.
Great job Nathan! How do you find time to sleep?

Hey folks!
Thanks for the compliments and the orders! I've been holding this close to the vest for some time now and its been eating me up not to share it!
@ Pr0fane: So we'll see you in bankruptcy court this time next year? :D I'm pleased you like them. Baby Kade was my wifes concept actually, this from a mother of three children. I worry some days.
@ Duende: To answer your question, I don't sleep, atleast not much. I hope I can soon though! :D Thanks for pointing out the payment options, I've gone ahead and added a Paypal file to the store now, hopefully that will help any confusion.
@ Fatgoblin: Yup, we ship anywhere. Flat rate right now is $5.25 airmail for outside of the US. Inside the US it is $3.25 priority.
@ Marineboy: The kids didn't really need the pudding anyway! I'll let Anders and Scott reply to this but you might be surprised for some of the stuff planned for the near future. :D
@ Whyspyr: Ack! It might have been for not having an account registered, but I will look into that. BTW, the account registration and information entered is for shipping and tracking purposes, so I don't want anyone to think that we're creating a database just to spam or sell off.
Thanks for the support folks. If you know of forums or websites that would be interested in this sort of news, please by all means, post it there if that is allowed. Better yet, send me the link, I'm deadly eager to find out how these are accepted.

I'd really like to see the studio paint jobs for Bishop and Viktoria, whos' doing those? Baby Kade looks great in a disturbing kind of way, and I really shouldn't look at Killjoy right after eating dinner. (Which is a compliment to the gross-out skill of the painter).
Is there a batch #2 in the planning?

@ Pr0fane: Heh, very true, but then again, many folks didn't really look at the logo all that closely, or just figured it for a graphic drawing. I was have a bit of fun waiting to see who, if anyone, would make the call on that one! Thanks for the compliments!
@ Duende: All four studio painters have the miniatures, it is just a matter of time and who manages to get what finished, my hopes are that each painter will showcase the miniature in a different light, giving some ideas on how the miniatures can be painted and in different style as each of them have a very unique style of painting. I expect there will be studio jobs of the other miniatures up soon.
As for other miniatures, yes ma'am. Right now there are plans for atleast two new miniatures every two months or so, as long as the line finds support of course. The fifth miniature has already been finished and cast and sent on to the painters to get a head start on painting him and the sixth miniature is at about the halfway point in sculpting (she's sort of my pet project!).
More on those later though, no sense in sensory overload!
@ Everyone who as made a purchase: Thanks so much!

I have only one slightly critical comment;
She is obviously holding two swords...but she has two sheathed as well...is she really intended to have four swords or should the scabbards be empty? I can't help but notice she's not got any scabbards for the two in hand.
Squirrel
11-17-2005, 08:02 AM
Actually that is one of the most appealing aspects of the mini. If I keep her holding the 2 swords, I can just trim off the two sheathed sword grips. If however I decide to have her with 1 (or 2) empty hands, or holding something else, I can leave them attached.

Those are some very different colors than you normally do aren't they Mr. Eric? Love the anime feel that she has and the look of her coming out from the darkness like she's ready to kick butt! Is she standing on a street?
EricJ
11-21-2005, 02:26 PM
yep, acutally quite different than normal, and I'm actually sort of nervious about her since I went dark and gritty, and I'm not that used to dark and gritty! Also muted tones exclusively to give that really dark feel to it.
Strangely enough, it's exactly the same colors however I use all the time, actually my 2 favorite all time colors (shadow grey and dark flesh), just used in a different way.
I tried to make it look like a street, and with her walking away from something of a bloody scene. Give the piece a bit more atmosphere hopefully :)

Wonderful job Eric :)!
The blades remind me your work on Kara a bit, even though the light didn't hit the blades in the same way.
The black background is great for the atmosphere ;).
EricJ
11-21-2005, 04:36 PM
yeah, I did the blades similarly in terms of color and contrast, however definately used a different dynamic for how the light reflected, which I think was needed as these were straight blades not curved...at least I hope I got it right!. I'm still stuggling mentally when I look at this one, other than the blades it sort of doesn't feel like mine!

It's strange that you should say that. I find that it reminds me a bit of your "The Scourging, A Witchhunter Inquisitor" and your "Dark Maiden" by the style. Maybe you've just been using more red or white tones lately then blues and browns?

I think they both are fantastic. Eric's has the look of Viktoria walking out from the shadows under the street lamps and the light is casting everything into shadows, etc.
Rituals has the look of 'day' her, where she's out and about in broad daylight taking care of buisness the hard way.
EricJ
11-28-2005, 12:45 PM
I agree Nathan, and actually I think that it is really the nmm of the swords that tell a large part of the story. With mine the highlights are small and severe, with the rest really dark, suggesting a dark scene with small artificial lights, where Anders has a large highlight area and the rest isn't so dark, suggesting a large light source, like the sun, and a lighter day. I think nmm swords can tell all sorts of stories about setting a scene.
Ritual
11-28-2005, 02:15 PM
I wanted mine to look dark, but still bright, if that makes sense... :bird: I wanted a menacing atmosphere to her, but I wanted the colours to be reasonably bright. And I definitely wanted the blades to be shiny! :D When I first saw the green of Viktoria, I imediately envisioned the blades with the bright, diagonal highlights across the middle and the light blue reflections in the steel. That's an interesting thought, Eric, about there being a story in the look of the blades. I hadn't really thought of that.

Thanks for your order Jeremy, appreciate it. No worries, we'll hold Killjoy for you and tempt you with him from time to time.
:D
As for the artists, not sure which ones you are refering too but I'll give a quickie list and see if that helps out.
Concept artist for Bishop, Killjoy and Viktoria is a gentleman named Wang Wei out of China. He has some great stuff, some of which I'm talking to him about now to get permission to replicate as miniatures and in the near future, to do some personal artwork for the Wyrd website. Obviously we've made changes to the miniatures from the concepts to fit our wants with Bishop and Killjoy. Concept for Baby Kade was my wife, Victoria.
Painters for the line are EricJ (Eric), Ritual (Anders), Spacemunkie (Scott) and Hot Lead (Laszlo). You can see some of their stuff here, others will be released in the future as the line is painted by each.
Sculptor (consider that an artist) is Edgar Ramos. He is currently the only one working on the miniature line and does a damn fine job of it. My hopes are that we'll up the miniature creation process here in the near future if things go well.
Other concept artists (actually drawing things) are Edgar Ramos (again) who does a mean job at working out some of my thoughts on paper to get an idea of poses, and also Patrick MorganKeith who I have recently approached with some concepts that I would like drawn up who is doing a bang-up job on one of the ladies I have given to his care.
Then of course there is me - I might doodle from time to time to give someone an idea of what I'm looking for, or pose my children in awkward positions and take pictures to give someone an idea of a pose that I'm after. Generally I just do the 'thinking' of what I want and have others more capable bring things to life for me.
So - that's the whole of the Wyrd lineup of people at the moment. That answer it all?

Hi guys and gals !
I've been quiet since the Rotten Harvest, since I've had tons to do at the office before year end...but I've been looking in now and then.
I just love this new line of figures, my favourite being Viktoria and I admire the work of Anders and Eric on the same mini.
I wish i could paint NMM correctly but my first attempt (last week) is a terrible failure; dunno if I should keep trying.
Anyway, i have a hard time deciding which Viktoria I like best, and right now i would favour Eric's version due to the "darker look"; probably because i'm a Dark Age fan (wink @ Profane)...
Hope to find Viktoria among the goodies sent after the Rotten Harvest...(wishful thinking ?)
I have checked out some of Wang Wei's work and i sincerely hope that Nathan is considering producing minis based on the headhunter or the witch, hehehe
Will be very busy this weekend : we 'll have the very 1st convention in Malaysia, aptly named GAMECON 1 ( http://www.gamecon1.com/ ) and I'll be doing demos of Dark Age and Confrontation simultaneously (must be my split personality) with my gaming buddies.
Cheers
