http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v518/southernphuk/banners/TotalTestosterone2007.jpg
Once again it's time to kick things off with another Wyrd Painting Contest. As with last year, we've decided to return to a popular theme; Total Testosterone - 2007!Overwhelming muscles, the need for a big weapon and the underlying instinct to show off for the fairer sex? If the answer is yes, then your miniature is more than qualified for the Total Testosterone painting contest!
The contest will run from June 1st through July 15th and during that time competition entries can be submitted. At the close of the contest, voting will commence for one week where you will be allowed to vote anonymously through the Wyrd forum software as well as leave comments and critique which we have found our previous entrants have greatly enjoyed. After the voting, announcements will be made and prizes sent to the winners, along with the random prizes that we give away with every contest.
Due to the theme, your miniature must be male, and to be more specific, a human or humanoid type. Examples are: Humans, elves, dwarves, halflings, centaurs, male vampires, ogre bulls, WWII cyber-zombies ... etc. The list is rather long and and open, but if you should question it, please contact me and I will give you a final decision upon it.
The specific rules for the contest can be found on the Wyrd Miniatures website on the forums under 'Wyrd Painting Contest: Rules and Information' (http://wyrd-games.net/showthread.php?t=450). I would really like to stress folks to read the rules, as folks tend to miss them for some reason and they end up misunderstanding the contest, the theme or disqualify themselves. The main thing to keep in mind is that all entries are supposed to be anonymous!
The categories for the contest are:
ALTERNATIVE: The men that just don't seem to fit anywhere else in the categories. Cowboys, naval officers or chainsaw wielding postal workers (okay, that last one wasn't funny - really!)
DEADLY DUEL: A diorama with two or more combatants locked in combat or something equally disturbing. Atleast one miniature must be male.
FANTASY: Sword wielding barbarians, magic casting magicians, deadly muscled assassins ready to draw you blood. If the miniature is pure fantasy, this is his category.
SCI-FI: Gun blazing street samurai of the deadly future or weapon wielding aliens dancing a song of death or perhaps a steampunked necromancer plying his disgusting trade. A wide range of miniatures will fit nicely into this category.
MONSTER'S BALL: Due to demand and the fact that we just can't seem to get away from folks want to enter male monsters, we've returned with this category. If its a male, and a monster of any sort (this will include everything from centaurs to wanged demons), then here he goes.
As these contests continue to get bigger and bigger, we've made the decision here at Wyrd to shoulder the responsibility of prize packages solely, with miniatures and gift certificates awarded. This will in no way affect the size or frequency of prizes, only the variety being offered. With the size and frequency of the contests we thought it only fair to take on the burden of goodies.
I am once again looking forward to a great contest as they seem to be getting bigger and better with each passing due to your participation and enthusiastic entries. Thank you! If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to ask.

I might enter this one!!
Frustrated Father
05-27-2007, 01:29 PM
Whaa .. me .. sneak something like that in .. no ... well .. maybe.
To answer a few questions, we didn't ask for corporate sponsors this time around as we have gotten more than a few e-mails saying 'we can do this one, but not this one, you do it too often, oh well send you something (and then never get it)' and I thought for the most part, if we're running the contests we might as well take on the burden.
Does this mean you can't enter any miniature into the contest? Nah, of coure not. Enter whatever you want, from whatever manufacturer that you wish. We're still open to that and wish to see the hobby grow, whether from Wyrd Miniatures or other companies.
Now, I've gotten several PM's and e-mails this morning about 'wait, you don't want corporate sponsorship?' and to that I must amend that almost everyone that sponsored these contests was well above and very giving in what they sent and I appreciate the heck out of it. Now what I'm thinking of doing and I'm talking to everyone about it right now, is having manufacturer awards again or special prizes from anyone that wants to support it. I'm not above adding goodies to everyones pot, so a follow up e-mail will be going out to past sponsors and we'll go from there.
So, bottom line, enter the contest, win some goodies - we'll get it taken care of and figured out properly who and how and even I'm sure have a few Manufactuer Awards and Special Awards as well in the very upcoming.

Of course I'll enter and let me just use this post to rant about the fact that preparing the base and miniature (and there is no conversion, by the way) has already taken me more than three days of work in the evening. Meh. Haven'T even touched a brush yet.

Actually, it is one of the things that I really don't like about the new gallery. Before I could put everything on moderation and it wouldn't show up till I wanted to, and could make it do that per group. Now I have to set the whole damn thing up to moderate which is a major pain in the butt, particularly when members are posting and the Iron Painter is going along as well.
I'm going to have to see about having Michelle's tutorial integrated into the announcements and or something else to make it a bit more 'obvious'.

I'm getting another figure finished for a different comp first as it ends soon.
I'd really like to enter this, I have an idea that bubbled up during IP2 that I set aside for the next Testosterone. But it's lead-up time to GenCon and I might not be able to go next year, so I'm figuring I'd better use all my spare painting time on that. :-< Maybe I can manage to paint a quickie just to support Wyrd contests.

Little of all of that. This is my first competition and I think I'm over thinking things and stupidly I'm trying all kinds of new stuff. I should just paint what I know as best I can and be done but it not in me to do that. Always have to keep pushing. <sigh>

And I am painting Magpie miniatures as well which cuts down competition painting time.

For what its worth, I had planned three entries for this, and will probably only get one in (and not a very good one at that :( ) The Mechanical Mayhem and Black Scorpion competitions ate all of my painting time. I would like to do something for GenCon (okay, fine, laugh! :P ), so that will keep me from getting anything else for this contest.
I am actually disappointed about this, as the Wyrd contests are really what got me back into painting and I really like their format and the feedback.

07-14-2007, 11:50 AM
250 k should be more then enough. Do you use the save for web option? That makes a hell of a lot of difference size wize though on screen it doesn't look less good then the full size file.
matty1001
07-14-2007, 12:18 PM
I used save for web and it was only 212kb or something at 100% quality.
250kbs is more than enough for even larger images in my experience, considering you can take it down to about 80% quailty with save for web and notice no difference.

Whee! It's 20 past three in the morning! I'll get up at 9, prepare all the stuff for my father's birthdy, celebrate it, then take the photos in the evening. And I'll upload them too. Must not forget this one.
Also, EFF YOU, PARETO!

I think I'm all loaded and ready to go. I have no idea because it said "you are not autherized to view items in this catagory" but I followed the instructions so I think it's in. Is there any way to check? <sigh>

Liz: I believe that if you see the message that you're not authorized to view the photos, then you've uploaded the pics. They're kept hidden until the voting actually starts.

Got bitten by the painting bug last night and started painting after 9pm and didn't stop till just before 4 am this morning when i up-loaded another figure for the comp.
Considering the first one took me about 14 hours to do over two days (including breaks and such) I'm very happy with how the second one turned out, since it took less than 7 hours (starting from a primed figure) to do.
I'm very excited about the cool stuff coming up!

I'm very sorry I caused this confused. I meant that I have uploaded my pictures
... the actual contest galleries will probably take some time until they are prepared. Sorry for this poorly-worded post ;)

Probably tomorrow - have to go through and edit them, move them into the categories properly, change out all the names and then setup the polls. Might have some of the work done by the moderators for the giggles of it if they feel up to it, otherwise I won't be able to work on any of it till tonight/tomorrow morning properly.

I managed to get an entry into the contest. I was too busy to do what I would have liked for this contest, but I've been in every Wyrd contest since the original Fem Fatale and didn't want to break the streak. :)
I am looking forward to seeing other people's entries, though. I am sure there is going to be some really good stuff.
Good luck to everyone!
I slipped in something, too, though I'm in the same boat as Thryth - too busy to have done what I would have liked to.
I'm off on vacation for a week, good luck to all the entrants and hopefully I'll be back in time to vote and comment.

I know it's probably somewhere but I can't find it - when does voting stop?
Frustrated Father

Look at the top of the voting poll and you'll see the date and time that the poll closes. They are all within 10-15 minutes of each other from first to last. Alternative ends at:
This poll will close on 07-26-2007 at 02:15 AM
You can find the rest of them easily enough in that manner.
