I've tossed my first idea, which was going to be a space marine ripping the head off of a genestealer.
Instead I'm going to use this one, with my own modifications of course.

So far I have only just begun the base and chopped up her right arm. I'll take pics and get them up this weekend.

I picked out a new miniature too. I'm gonna restart this evening and I'm all fired up. I'm gonna paint one of the Rackham Kelt giants.
This one: http://www.rpgmall.com/images/Mini/RKHBASP03.jpg
No conversions from me this time. Well save the filing the axe to something more sharp and terrifying then a plank ;)

Got a fair amount of hacking done last night. Pics are in the gallery.

haven't seen anything from Cindy yet.
Can it be she's embarrassed?
supervike
06-01-2007, 01:47 PM
Maybe she likes to lay the smack down at the last minute!
cdukino
06-01-2007, 02:04 PM
No... not embarrassed... just forgot to take pictures.
Uploaded them now. One of Judas. This picture was taken at the point where is started to go wrong though the most of the strange lumpy dust isn't embedded in the paint yet. Just so you can see I wasn't whining about work lost which I hadn't done ;)
Also I uploaded the giant for as far as i got him now (picture taken 5 minutes ago). The paint at his boots is still wet.

Oh, I see, painting during the day while others of us have real jobs (that we are ignoring while we read the forums)
cdukino
06-01-2007, 02:54 PM
Well as far as half past eight in the evening is during the day. I AM in the Netherlands you know... I already had my full day at work done :P I'm just a die hard... work AND paint... not at the same time unfortunatly.

06-01-2007, 03:38 PM
D'oh!
I forgot you were in the land of leaky dykes and wooden shoes!
(I had a friend from the Hague in high school who used to love to tell small children about life in the Netherlands, how you all wore wooden shoes so you could walk on the water when the dykes burst, and how you didn't have TVs or VCRs....)

Been adding some blood.... hmm. It's pretty fun to do eventhough I'm not a gore lover....
hmmm....so far for planned subtlety...
Came out more realistic looking then initially planned too. But I'm keeping it that way.
vincegamer
06-04-2007, 08:23 AM
I haven't gotten to the blood yet. I want to go outside for that and it's been raining.
I have made progress as you can see in the gallery.
It now has some paint!
Hinton
06-04-2007, 08:30 AM
As much as I dread the answer, why exactly do you need to go outside to get to the blood?
(visions of a run-down shack with victims chained to the walls dancing in my head)
vincegamer
06-04-2007, 09:56 AM
Nothing nearly so greusome.
No, I just want to stipple/splatter the red, and I don't want to risk getting ink on the walls.
Oh, and I bought some of that Tamiya Clear Red, and since they had it I also bought some of that Tamiya Smoke everyone raves about.
Can I use any brush? and do I need anything special to clean the brush?
Malebolgia
06-04-2007, 10:27 AM
An old brush is recommended because the stuff is thick (almost like syrup). Using water to wash out the brush works good. I also thin it with water, but this is different than with regular paint, so I'd try it out first on a tester miniature.
When doing blood, another great technique is the stippling way. Take an old brush, cut off 2/3 of the length of the hairs and dip this in the TCR+black mix. Let this dry for 10 seconds and then stipple it on the surface. This gives a good impression of splattering. Works well on blades and stuff like that.
vincegamer
06-04-2007, 10:34 AM
TCR + black mix? Regular black acrylic?
supervike
06-04-2007, 12:20 PM
I used my regular brush, but really cleaned it after using it.
For god's sake, don't if you are a brush licker, DON'T while using TCR.

TCR + black mix? Regular black acrylic?
Yep, i always mix mine with Citadel or VMC black. Then I add a couple of drops of water to give it a longer drying time. It goes very jelly like.

Where are more photos from Cindy? I'm guessing she's crying over the mess that is her entry.

You're not supposed to put your mini in the laundry. And putting it in the dryer afterwards won't make it any smaller.

Well I am still working on taking a picture (the fig is a bitch to photograph with the weapong held before him. My dept of field is being screwed up. But I'm getting there. Also I want to try one of those fancy backgrounds like wyrd has. I have some time for that.
LavronYor

Look out Vince, the fancy background is going to kick your a$$. No forgetting to crop the photo like last round.....

I cropped that photo. Unfortunately the base was as wide as my background so there was no way to quickly eliminate the extra.

It helps a lot to take a picture from a longer distance away. That way, the camera won't focus on small parts, but it will focus on the whole miniature itself. And with your camera I assume you have more than enough MP to compensate for the smaller picture.

Okay this is bizarre...in a good way :D
Last night I actually dreamt of the finals of Iron Painter 3. I dreamt that Vince had won the finals with a great piece. The scene he made was a highway scene where a huge sign post with neon lights that had been hacked down. It was laying on the ground and the last of its green neon light was "bleeding" (in OSL) over the ground as if it was dying.
Coolest dream I have had in months :D.

Duodenum
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In anatomy of the digestive system, the duodenum is a hollow jointed tube connecting the stomach to the jejunum. It is the first and shortest part of the small intestine and it is where most chemical digestion takes place. It begins with the duodenal bulb and ends at the ligament of Treitz. The name duodenum is from the Latin duodenum digitorum, twelve fingers' breadths or inches.
OK, I was wrong. I'm the first 12" of the intestines. (See Lavron's post, FF!)
