I'm sorry if I am doing themomancy (reviving themes discussed to death ;) ) But I'm a bit frustrated now.... so i need to vent a bit.

I am not doing any thing different by my knowledge then normally painting wise. But something wierd is happening to my paintjob (the IP one by the way... though that's not relevant, though it does suck). The whole surface gets grainly even the pure basecoats, regardless of the thickness of paint applied. I thin paints as usual. It goes on smooth especially with the wetblending but seems to dry up grainy, Almost like it's clumping. Even the solid colour parts (just one covering basecoat without shading or highlight) looks uneven under the light if you look carefull. And it becomes clear when putting on the next layer as it tends to pool around the uneven bits, getting worse with every layer. Like very fine dust has collected on/in the still wet paint. Or maybe it's in the paint... I don't know. Looks like wery fine white speckles at places.

It doubt it's the primer as that came on smoothly. Could it be paint gone bad? Dust collecting? (I do have a guinia pig cage in my paintingroom... but she's been there for a while). The paint won't flow nicely on the layer beneath it either, even with he right thickness.

The two things i can imagine it to be are:
- new brand sawdust for Cleo's cage (maybe finer dust in it) due to the other being sold out
- My new rackham white paint had gone bad (I used it through most colours, even the basecoats)

Well I fucked up my IP entry with this. That's not to big of a problem. I still have time enough to do a new one. Just have to get a new idea. Judas Bloodspire still looks ok... but not competition level. Became to grainy looking. But I need to find out what it was so i can do a new fig (don't feel like stripping the thing.. would ruin the conversion as well)) and try to avoid this problem.

...

PS in case anyone asks. Yes I tried to take a picture of it... But my camera won't pick it up honestly to give you all a good idea. It just looks like thick paint then... it isn't. (well it is now on a few parts I tried to correct, going from bad to worse... like the face)

edit: Ok... I think it's the new sawdust... My whole room is covered in a very thin film of those tiny white speckles, It's all over my wip shelf. I don't have the problem nearly as much in the livingroom (though light sucks there to paint with and i do have a rabbit cage there i cleaned today with the new stuff...so maybe it gets bad there as well) Damned... Now I have to clean my room thoughroughly as part of the IP.

do you have magic wash? it will help smooth what you have with out color then maybe you can salvage something. Simple green should not eff upp the greenstuff for your conversion . Cindy I do not think I have ever read your cussing....let alone drop the f bomb... you go woman. Get your self in a bloody bad mood it will inspire you .

Ouch. :-< I'm glad you figured out the problem, though. I keep a can of compressed air for cleaning out computer parts in the paint room to dust minis off I haven't worked on for a while. Also if it's not showing up on photographs is there a chance you could keep on with Judas and he'd look good enough for internet photos?

Magic wash saved my last mini (thanks to Tracy's suggestion). I've been using craft paint which is very lumpy and I washed over it with straight magic wash a few times and it blended in all the lumps. Also, I used to have guinea pigs and I know how messy they can be. On good tip is to keep the mini covered with something when you are not working on it. I use a plastic box from a set of dice I bought and I know Tracy uses and old pill bottle. That way it can dry in peace and the piggy can jump around doing happy dances all she wants.

BTW, does she sing? Our guinea pigs would occasionally sing like a bird in the middle of the night. Freaked me out the 1st time I heard it.

I can't use Judas for the competition. Pictures seem to enhance it much more. The right effect doesn't show on the picture, but you can see something is off. Looks very rough.

I don't have magic wash. Don't even know which stuff it is you are specifically referring too.

Cleo does babble a lot at times, but I haven't heared her sing. She does squeeck when she wants to get attention.
