Since I know many of you that are painters and go to competitions like to plan well in advance, we're giving a heads up for GenCon Painting Competition this year.
This will be our second GenCon Indy and this year on top of helping to sponsor the Paint and Take we are also sponsoring the GenCon Painting Competition which usually has a ton of entries and goodies from manufacturers from across the industry.
Wyrd Miniatures is doing a 'Best of Wyrd' for the top painted/based entry into the contest. The winner will receive a certificate for $100USD which can be redeemed at the booth for miniatures of their choice.
Also, as we would like to encourage any and all entries into the competition, bring by your painted Wyrd miniature(s) and entry card into the competition and show it off to us at the booth so that we can oooh-and-ahhh appreciatively and we'll give you a free miniature from our line. One free miniature per person, not per entry.
Happy painting!

Ooooh goody goody. I have a new wyrd mini set to arrive this week, and I have a few more tucked away in the minis box. I'll have to figure out what I want to paint and knock out a mini or two for this.
Thank you so much for the advance notice! Too few of the manufacturers do that. Between time constraints and the limit of two entries per category, extra time for planning and painting is always appreciated. I'll definitely be considering whether I can come up with a good entry idea featuring a Wyrd mini.

I'll be flying out to Indianapolis and even though I'm not planning to enter, I was wondering how exactly would people recommend getting contest entries to GenCon without them being damaged? I'd hate to arrive and find my hard work in pieces.

Pack them well and bring them in your carry-on luggage.
Hinton, if you get a chance browse some of the threads in the ReaperCon section of the Reaper forums. Several attendees have asked about how to safely transport minis in air travel, and there seem to be some frequent travellers over there with a lot of good tips. To sum up what I remember - pack it as a carry-on, expect it to be searched, explain what the minis are, include an unpainted mini so you can show them how soft the metal is. Paints and any other liquids or gels, pokey tools and the like are best packed in checked luggage, and in the original packaging that explains what they are. I think at least one person mentioned including catalogues or other print-outs that referred to hobby activities, and to go ahead and pack that stuff on the top of the bag as it's going to be searched. I've been meaning to ask about GS, wouldn't want a TSA agent to go thinking it's plastic explosive or something.
Also I don't see why you shouldn't enter the contest! You are a good painter and also an imaginative one. Yeah, you could be competing with the likes of Marike, Jen Haley, etc., and honestly it's pretty high level stuff that takes the top three prizes in each category usually. (Though some of the categories like large and machines of war usually get a modest number of entries.) That's one of the really cool things about the manufacturer awards, it opens up the competition. If your entry is being considered not as is it the best of the 70 entries for single, but is it among the best of the two or five or ten entries for Magnificent Egos, Wyrd, Crunch Waffle, Dark Sword, Iron Wind Metals, Reaper or one of the companies I'm forgetting that usually supports the contest. I've heard that there have been times when an manufacturer award hasn't been awarded for lack of entries. Also, just aiming to make first cut in a big contest like that can be encouraging. Really it's kinda cool just to see your entry in a big case with all kinds of people passing by and stopping to look. The real down-side is you can't enter stuff that's been previously shown on the web, so you have to get private WIP feedback and can't show off until after the contest. :-<

Thanks for the tips.
@Wren: Thanks for the vote of confidence. I wasn't seriously considering it, but between your encouragement and Duende's, I think I might.

I did a review of the Wyrd stuff I have, and I think I have a good idea what I want to do. It'll be a relatively tough, and a new kind of project for me, but I'm excited about it. I suppose I should keep it hush hush for now however.
