Another grueling two weeks of competition. Real life took its toll on a few, but all chinned up and presented a entry. This Round is dedicated to Matty1001, who had an especially hard time of it. Thoughts and prayers go out to you, you are a great forum member, and an all round fun guy!
A quick thanks to the judges, again they do their duty without grumbling, and it is no easy feat.
Right to it, Here are the scores: Winners are in red--losers send your fee!
Stupidcow 51.5 vs Matty1001 46.5
Jubilee 63.5 vs. vincegaMer 64.5
Cdukino 66 vs. Thryth 62.5
Orkydave 41 vs. TabStudios 67
Let me be the first to say, the overall quality of this round was astounding. Some very convincing Sheer effects, and just all round super paint.
Here are some of my patent pending thoughts on the round:
TabStudios dominated with an amazing 67 overall points, cdukino not far behind with 66.
vincegaMer scored incredibly well in THEME, garning 18.5, Thryth and Cdukino also did well with 17 each.
The lowest in theme was incredibly Stupidcow. Who could only manage 9 measly points. I say incredibly because Stupidcow ADVANCES!! Even Orky Dave with his admission of 'not quite done' got 11.
The high technical score goes to TabStudios, with 17.5, and she also blew the competition away with a 35 in 'overall aesthetic'
Hats off to Thryth, who put up a brilliant figure(actually, it was one of my faves), and a great score but couldn't ward off Cdukino's skill.
In the EVERY POINT COUNTS category, vincegaMer scored 1 more point than Jubilee to move on.
An incredible 5 entries scored in the '60's'
I will post the Judges official ballots in a bit, and please don't hesitate to check my math AND CALL ME ON IT, if I am mistaken. I double checked everything, but you know me...
Good work all, and congrats to the winners!!

Since the theme this time is pretty self-explanitory, I pretty much based my theme scores on how well it's done on each entry.

Stupidcow
Theme: 2
Technical: 4
Overall: 8
Like the others have said, the sheer black material wasn't immediately obvious and at first I thought she just had a dark skin color. I do like the colors you used, although the highlights on the cloak appear a bit rough. I like the base, her blade, and especially her creepy eyes. But the small photo is also hurting here, I keep wanting to zoom in on the pic to see the details better.

Hard to add any new points in my comments, I do commend you for finishing an entry even with everything else happening in your life. It's a good try at sheer effects, although using using a sheer brown probably has to be one of the more difficult choices to go with. It's a good effort though and I really like your basework here too.
Jubilee

I also think the white cloth looks a bit thick because of the bright whiteness and the rough look it has. The see-through quality is well done, very subtle but just enough to catch the eye. I really like her skin color and hair, nicely done. Ad to your complait that people "don't know how to make it better", I could only suggest that you consider how light acts on sheer fabrics, that since the thread density isn't as thick as on regular cloth, there is more shadow "within" the cloth, since there is less white threads close together to reflect the light back. I think the larger flat areas of white that isn't lying against anything should be grayer (since most of the light is passing through it into shadow) and be whiter in the creases or areas the material is more gathered. Is that understandable? kinda hard to describe what I see in my mind.

Great sheer effect! A horribly impractical outfit but very well done! I don't like the muddy looking base, I'd imagine her more hanging out on a city street or similair. And Quote:

This has to be one of my favorite entries this round just for the sheer uniqueness (pun intended). Usually, the sheer cloth is exposing a female's "fleshy" bits, but you have gone all the way to the bone! ;) I relly like the bottle too, and the "clear" neck of it. Sure, the illusion isn't perfect, but it's well done for a rush job and I don't see how this type of illuson would work from a 360° viewpoint anyway.

The sheer effect is very well done, I was just a bit disappointed that the skirt part wasn't sheer as well, as it makes the whole outfit seem "unbalanced". I really like her fleshtones and her hair. The red areas seems a litle flat, but red is a hard color to deal with. The base is good, if not a bit uneven-looking. Great job on her.

Sorry you didn't get this entry finished, as it's off to a great start. The sheer effect isn't overly obvious, mostly at the breasts is it really noticable, rather than just looking like highlighting. I really like her hair and the base and hope you finish her and show us all when she's done. Sorry for the 1, but I can't give a great score to a mini with obviously unfinished parts. What is that little blue thing on the base anyway (I keep looking at it!)?

I have this mini myself and have it partially painted, so I know just how tiny and intricate it is. Very nice paintjob and I love the color choice. Like orkydave's, the sheer effect isn't readily noticable except at her breasts. I also like the paterning on her blue cloak, gives her a "nomad" feel. Excellent work! (Painting that hawk was a right pain in the a**, wasn't it?) ;)

Congrats to all the winners and to all those who join me now in the " man, I got ripped off " group, " my opponent (put opponent's name here), was supposed to stink, and ( he / she ) didn't!" category.....

Wow that was close.
And despite the fact that Ritual gave my opponent fully 3 more points than he gave me (and in fact the highest score he gave anyone), I pulled out on top.
Great comp, and as I have always admired Jubilee's work, that's a particularly satisfactory win.
Duende,
I'm not sure what I could have done with the base. It was an odd texture and I just painted it like the dry clay ground of my native Oklahoma. It's not mud by any means.

Tallying the scores I see Nathan agreed with you but no one else did.
Hey! As moderator, all you have to do is substitute your judgment for Rituals and I'll be on top! In fact, if we change it so that just you and Nathan are the judges....
Oh, wait. Nathan wouldn't have passed me last round so maybe I don't want that.

Cheers Jim, I may have gotten quite a low score but I was only beaten by 5 points, imagine what that extra week would/could have done. Was a great competition to be in, and I will definately take part in the next one.
SC send me your address and I will get a prize out to you.

I am actually quite relieved not to move on here, since the next contest will end on the weekend of reapercon and it would have been quite unlikely I'd have been able to finish.

I get to advance even though a DNF got higher theme score? Yay that's must be SHEER luck. On the other hand, I'm full of surprises ain't I? *Puts on a smug look*

No... more... Iron Painter for me???
NOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Seriously though...
Thanks to Supervike and the judges for making this contest happen. It was great motivation for me to paint and to try things that I never would have attempted otherwise. I also ended-up with my new personal favorite paint job that I have ever done (my round 2 entry).
<edit>@SuperVikeThanks for mentioning me in the blurb, twice! I've come a long way from round one! :D</edit>
@Cindy Congratulations. I actually had my hopes up at the end, but your skill proved too great. Please PM me your address and I will send you a miniature-or-two.
@Jubilee Congratulations again. I enjoyed the competition and the "out nicing".
@VinceGamer Thanks for your encouragement (http://wyrd-games.net/showpost.php?p=24684&postcount=8) (http://wyrd-games.net/showpost.php?p=24684&postcount=8%29). I'm sorry that I let you down, I tried. Good luck in round 4!
If anyone wants to give me further suggestions on improvements, I would appreciate it.

Hey, just because I technically may not have finished does not make me a DNF!!! The last time I looked I had 41 next to my name and not DNF!!! , ok, this may be the lowest score in Iron painter ever but I look at it this way, If I scored 41 with a half finished mini, then I would have scored 82 with a completed one, meaning I dominated the round SO THERE!!!! :)
Although I can see where the judges are coming from giving 1's in technique for an unfinished model I do think this was a little harsh- there were some very new to me and complicated techniques used here, which personally I thought were technically pulled off well. I thought the obvious place to dock points for an unfinished piece from would have been the overall score (where it seems points were docked from too) as any unfinished areas would drastically affect the overall appearance of the model.
Congratulations to everyone advancing. And the best of luck to whoever draws TAB this round as you will need it! Regardless of what the themes are or who she gets drawn against, I think it will be a fool who bets against her to win the crown. Consistently amazing every round.
(incidentally what are the next matchups and theme Vike?)
I was quite suprised that Thryth did not advance this round. I am a big fan of Cindys work but I truly thought she was beaten with Thryths beautiful entry. Just goes to show that with a panel of 4 judges and 4 different opinons anything an happen.

I wasn't sure who would advanvce from the 2 of us together. Thryth's entry looked great. I think it might have been my off of the beaten path mini and paint choice to use the theme that got me through the next round, not so much the technical painting or the overall look.
vincegamer

Dave, I think the judges score "technical" as the overall painting ability shown in the model, not just the ability to handle the technique being judged.
In other words, if NMM is the theme and you do knock your socks off NMM but don't bother to shade/highlight the skin, then you will get docked in the technical department.

Why, thank you orkydave! That's very nice of you to say. :)
I think that you should have gotten more points, too! :D
Seriously, you had a very nice entry. As I said in the gallery, nice sheer effect and a great base.

Cany wait for the semi final lineup now! I see the ol cow is right in the mix again. One of the most consistent painters in my view.
