View Full Version : Painting Class Instructor and Suggestions

Alrighty, so I'm thinking about bringing back something that we did way back at the start of Wyrd and essentially looking to bring back the 'online' painting class where an instructor who has the time and inclination will take some folks through the steps to painting a particular style, basing a certain way or sculpting something in particular.

Klute did this initially and I think it went over well, even if I didn't manage to finish up mine due to time.

Anyone interested in doing something along these lines? Would have to be an instructor(s) who has time, skill, patience and is willing to take the time to basically do a full tutorial and then walk students through it step by step and offer honest critique and direction.

If interested, please holler out here or in a PM. What do you get out of it, well goodies of course. By helping to build the Wyrd community and interaction here on the site I am of course very happy to offer up free metal. Multiple individuals are welcome.

Got suggestions or requests, good as any place to make them as well.

First, not that I am a great painter, but I would be willing to give it a try, especially if one of the really talented painters in the judging realm, (past or present) were to give a guest critique here or there. ( or at least for the class instructor )
Second, it might go better in tutorials, where it is not competing with IP news.
Third, it would be helpful to know how people would like the details to be. Class once a week, every two weeks, move at your own rate, etc

any more ideas or comments ( if you are tempted to say, " What the hell could he teach anyone? " please just pm it to me... )

I would be interested in doing something like this, but I won't have time for it for quite some time. Maybe after the summer or something like that. I would, however, not mind at all to support any other instructor with "guest critique", like LavronYor suggested.

Yep, your one of the best for guest critique ;)

Im in, but for following along not giving steps. But most likely to busy for a few weeks from now, but I suppose thats how long it could take to sort it all out and get started. Plus, we could do Wyrd minis! Get some of my wyrd collection painted up lol

Thats a great idea. If I were a better painter I would offer help, as it is I would like to participate.

First, I guess that I should clarify. I am willing to be an instructor, and as I said, not because I think that I am so good, but because I realize that many better painters probably don't have the time to commit to such a project. I certainly won't mind sharing the responsibility with a co-instructor and or guest instructors. I suppose that I would be more comfortable instructing if people realize that I will be targeting the intermediate range of painters. I certainly wouldn't mind painters better than myself participating ( especially if painters like Anders can help with the critiquing of intermediate to advanced painters, like Barry and other Iron Painters ;-) )

I'd be interested, but like Ritual have time issues and wouldn't be available for something like this until September. Also probably the thing I'm best at is skin, which Klute already covered, though I have a different method. Though I could throw in hair to add a little something new, I think I'm getting pretty good at hair.

I always thought it would sound fun, and there are a few ideas I bet I could do...but it comes down to the time issue with me unfortunately, I always think I have more than I really have :(

For me I probably can't commit until I have a different work situation...which isn't really even on the horizon :(

Ya'll suggest, direct, whatever for the next few days, see what comes up and then I'll pop back in here and see about setting up something proper like for the folks interested.

Interested as a student. :)

I'd love to be part of that, too! (As a student, of course, my meager skills are not much to teach.)

Just cause I'm anal and curious to see where this leads. Personally I think there are some great folks lining up, both painters and instructors and am curious where it will lead to.

Volunteer Instructors:
LavronYor
Ritual (late in the year).

Paint Students:
Matty101
DrEvilMonki
Orkydave
watwe
Thryth
Henrix

Now personally I won't be having much to do with these as I just made the suggestion the other day and don't have time myself but ya'll figure out what is of interest for a type of class (painting, bases, theme, etc), let me know what is needed (space in the gallery or just here in the forum) and of course I'll be sending out goodies to instructors for taking the time and effort to bring something of interest to the Wyrd site.

Oh, and its been a long while since I've looked but taking a look at Klutes class way back when would probably be a good place to start as well to get ideas on what ya'll are looking for and what worked or didn't work for it.

Watching with interest.

I suppose you can throw my name in there as a student as well... I'm just not sure how well my class attendance is going to be. :embarasse

Alright, is anyone smart enough to post us a link to Klute's thread?

If I prove my worth I would as well instruct but there are many here better qualified.

Wren your right, you are great at hair!

I'll provide some "guest critique" backup for LavronYor if he decides to do a class, no problem.

No offence sculptorthesquig, but i wouldn't participate in a sculpting one, as TBH im not very interested in it. Prefer the painting.

But if people want a sculpting lesson then go for it.

I would try sculpting

having read Klute's class, what are some topics that people would like to see? I had thought of just a general start to finish, but if there are some specific subjects that people want to throw out, a themed class might make for a better start and finish point. As I mentioned to Nathan, if I go with a generic mini, I would probably concentrate on common mistakes that I have hopefully overcome. You all may be the judge of that. So, ideas.....
