Hah!
I have the perfect mini!
I will win hands down and I don't even have to paint anything for the mini is already transparent!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v498/vincegamer/seethrough.jpg
Good joke?
Seriously though, I have been tossing some ideas around and here are my choices so far. Feel free to cast a vote, or steal an idea:
First there is the one that is most ambitious and that I probably won't do in the 2 weeks but may take up again later.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v498/vincegamer/visibleman.jpg
The idea is to paint "The Visible Man" on a blank - you know, where you see the internal muscles and stuff. That's brobably better for a bust though, but it's a possibility.
Then there's tis one:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v498/vincegamer/primed1.jpg
It's really just your typical fantasy chick, but I could do her in daphanous clothes.
Next is the sci-fi look:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v498/vincegamer/primed2.jpg
A bit easier I think. I have plenty of pics on the web to go to for a woman wearing a sheer black mini-dress, underwear visible through the fabric.
Finally, something slightly more subtle:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v498/vincegamer/crystal2.jpg
I am thinking I would just do the crystal ball painted as an actual crystal. Subtle, but very difficult.

The last mini by spyglass was my first thought I had it on the table last night, I had bought her long ago to do transparent dress, after looking at her a bit, I figured she would need something with her on the base she is rather plain and her left eye looks like a challenge to paint. I thought to have her handing a dragon the ball but since I just did a dragon I kicked her to the side.
Then we went through the boxes and found a better mini. I have a darksword mini here that will be great, she is a hottie and the sculpting is Meier. I have started on the base and will be able to do some tonight after my html homework is done.

A link to the library gallery show. Flowery painting and some sketches got accepted for the show and so did Becca's sketch.(my daughter)
We did not get a purchase award but it is all about taking baby steps for me. These are the first things I have ever drawn or painted, it will take quite some time before I am proficient.
Skya, You can pick my brain on how I photoed black if I can bother you on for how to draw better, you have some great work on your web site. :D
Woo hoo, congrats on the show acceptance!

I started my entry last night, and worked on it today. Its Alice from Hasslefree. I read Chrispys article about sheer clothing over at CMoN and im having real problems with it. How to do it is easy enough, and I can get it looking pretty convincing, it just seems to be getting the placement and size right to fully emphasise the illusion and make it look 100% genuine.

I started mine as well. I wanted to go for a tad more orrigional then a voluptios lady in skin tight dress... so now i am getting my first problems. The idea is nice but the sculpt doesn't have the cloth contact and follow the body contour closely save an a very few spots... so I only have minimal contact space to have the illusion work. I will continue this one and abandon it timely if it won't work. I'm doing Ashkrypt from reaper by the way. Not a lot of flesh there to press against the dress ;) and the problem is also light bones to shrine through loose dark fabric. I might have just gone a bit to hard. But i am gonna try for a bit

Well here is my first wip (and first showing of a wip for IP).
Seeing the cloth alone might not be enough I converted his scynth into a flask to do some sheer there as well (so 2 firsts for me... first time sheer cloth and a first time doing a clear flask with liquid in it). I was rather limited in the conversion option due to the skeleton hand being on the scynth (rather wise spread especially the index finger) and limited room after assembly. But I did not want to resculpt the hand. I think it came out neatly. Also i prefer this not only theme wise but also concept wise as i never liked the both hand holding a huge weapon look of the figure. One hand holding a large sword and the other a huge scynth... That's not impressive on the battlefield, thats asking for accidents.
Ashkrypt sure if hard to get a transparencyeffect on. The cloth took me already 5 tries to get where it is now. Still come correcting to do but getting there.
http://www.wyrd-games.net/photopost/data/514/ashkrypt-wip.jpg
Obviously still very much wip. And not at all sure this is gonna be my final entry. Might still crash and burn.

Vince, I actually just saw your WIP over in the CMON thread asking about tattoos. Looks very promising so far, but just makes me wonder why on earth sculptors (most likely male) would ever think an outfit like that would ever be practical/comfortable? Sheesh, CHEESECAKE! ;) :D

I didn't sculpt it.
And in fact I didn't even buy it.
It was a prize I got in the last (final :( ) chick challenge.
It doesn't fit in with anything I own, and I have thought about turning the gun into a hair dryer, but most likely I will just sell it as is.

Cheers, i didn't have the lighting set up when i took this so there is alot of mid tone colours, and the highlights and shading have been washed out a bit. When i do the proper photos everything should look a notch better.
The ferns are still just undercoated on the base, i only got them yesterday, the just brusn primed them and glued them on.

Look at my latest pic in the WIP gallery.
Now, would it improve or harm the piece if I were to put holes in her stockings?
I just thought of it, and it seems a neat idea but since she's in a neglige that is whole, ripping up the stockings might be out of place.

Just finished my commission so can finally get cracking on my competition entry! Although me and the wife are babyless tomorrow night and going out on a 'date' so won't actually get paint on the mini until wednesday AAARRGH!!!!!!
So that realistically gives me 4 out of the 14 day deadline days to actually paint, not only that but to paint something that stands a chance of beating TAB the stripper, one of the strongest painters left in here!

Found out that this was my last morning to work on it and photograph Ashkrypt. So this is it... my entry is in the gallery. I'm happy with the sheer effects. I'm gonna try this more often. Pretty hard to do but fun.
I don't know why some parts keep comming up rather glossy in the pictures... maybe the undead just aren't photogenic ;) My my initial goal to do it grimy and painterly instead of clean and smooth didn't help me there either. I think it fits the figure but i don't know if i would have done that again the second time round for an online competition. i might have gone for a cleaner effect. I also don't know why the leaves on the ground came out so yellow. They aren't nearly as much in real life... strange as the rest came out rather accurate colourwise

My condolences. Glad you don't have to DNF though.
Yep, im glad I got it to the point it is last week.
Im most probably not going to get it tidied up now, iv been up at the hospital today with my dad, and basically, the doctors are saying the fuse is about to go out. There's not long left. Which is a really shitty feeling, knowing you just have to sit and wait around like a friggin melon. She is on Nil by mouth, which IMO is frankly quite pointless, there's no way she has the strength to recover from an operation, let alone have one.
So even if I do pass this round by a chance of luck, I think il opt out of the next round. It sounds pretty viscious but im not really affected deeply at the moment, but I know i will be when it does happen, and i will definately not be painting to a competition level. I am painting now, but just something easy to ease my heed.
Ahh feck...bring it on you bovine tart.

I'm sorry Matty! Shit like this is hard and you never know how you will react, until it happens. When both my grannies died I was strangely unaffected, which bothered me somewhat. I guess it had to do with the fact they both had had long lives and both went rather quickly once the inevitable was a fact so they didn't suffer long. I think I knew already they would die and was more glad they didn't suffer than I was sad about them being gone. I felt guilty about not beeing more sad, but on the other hand I could more easily support my parents in their grief.
I hope you'll find a good way to deal with your grief once it happens. You and your family have my condolences.

@ Matty - I've been at my grandma's deathbed before and I know exactly how it feels. It brings back the pain in my heart now hearing about this as my grandma was with me most of my childhood days.
Could it be due to the sheer number of female participants this whole thing feels like cotton candy painter we should rename it CC painter or sissy painter even. Where has all the smack gone???

I'm so good, I don't need to lower myself to smack-talking level. Afterall, once again my entry was the first in the gallery - what have you lazy bums been doing? ;)

Yeah, what Jubille said! Well, um, the first part of that. Otherwise, I'm actually quit slow. :(
I rather enjoy the smack-freeness of this Iron Painter.
What have I been doing? Take a look: what I've been doing (http://www.stanscorner.com/Miniatures/Articles/) (I'm not sure of the file structure that I will be using, see the only article currently there).
Off topic, does anyone know what the next contest will be? A Wyrd one, or IP4?

Im going to get my pic up soon, had done a tiny bit more, but nothing major. I was going to do a bit today, as I was off work, but my granny passed away 4.30am and I really can't be arsed with painting today, just to tired.

Cheers everyone. We kinda knew it would happen last night. She had been put on diomorphines (sp?) and although the doctors didn't say, my dad, being an industry nurse, knew. So it wasn't surprising, which took away the sting. Just chilled out today and played on the xbox with Lewis (little brother) which took our minds away from it. Going to start sorting things out properly tomorrow, then there's just the funeral to get done with.
My sympathies to you matty1001. It sounds like you're doing a great job of taking care of yourself and your family, I hope you keep remembering to do that.

Well, as I said to Hong earlier... I'm always anxious when I leave critique that it will be misinterpreted through language barriers and such... I don't have English as my native tongue and many others don't either. But, I'm glad that people seem to appreciate my comments for what they are! :)

You have better English skills than me lol I wish I knew Swedish aswell as you know English. (I blame the schools)
You're comments are fair, you have given me plenty of constructive (harsh?) critism in the past, and I have went away and improved on the figure. (My 40mm Artemis comes to mind)

Well I think your comments are incredibly harsh Ritual! What do you mean my unfinished mini needs some work in certain areas???!!!
(I know humour and sarcasam can be lost when written on the world wide t'interweb- especially when language barriers are involved so I would like to take this oportunity to formally advise the wyrd community that the above comment was intened as a bit of light hearted banter. I would also endeavour to inform you all that the author of this post (hereafter referred to as 'the post') has opted to continue this 'the post' , as is the authors democratic right , by including numerous and pointless big words in a futile attempt to confuse and bamboozle the afformentioned members whose primary language of communication, albeit written or verbal, is not her majestey the queens English. Mwaha ha haha!!!)
Now theres 30 seconds of your life you will never get back!
