Superfigs have been around for awhile, and they may not be the 'sexy' choice for mini-painters, there are quite a few in the gallery that look promising.

I'd love to see a few of the minis with 'better' paint.

Anybody have any thoughts/experience/info on them?

http://fourcolorfigs.com/catalog.html

There are several in the "brick" category I like, but my favorite is in the 'vehicle' category...

Not to sound like a knock, but they have kind of a 'non-professional' feel that gives them ALOT of charm in my eyes.

I kinda like 'em but would want to see what a decent painter would make of them.

Did a CMON search but nothing on there that I could see....

spacemunkie did one of this guy...

its on his http://www.groundforge.co.uk/ site, but here is the pic...

Although it is much much better than the 'superfigs' paint, it seems there is only so much you can do with him...I still like it tho!

Boy Mr Munkie's is much, much better. They should contact him and have him paint thier stuff, cause to be honest, I did no like that mini until I saw his version of it.

I have one or two around here somewhere in my pile of stuff (which I plan on thinning out as soon as I can get some time) and they aren't too bad.

Have to agree though, its amazing how much more appealing a miniature can seem once a painter with some talent has gotten ahold of it.

I thought these were being cancelled?
At least I'm sure Discounthobbies.com has stopped carrying them.

I like superhero figs. Citadel I think used to do some nice ones.
These have a few with great character, like Mistress Nightmare.
The one you show here reminds me of Captain Simian from "Captain Simian and the Space Monkeys."

I always marvel at the fact that there are so many good painters out there and yet mini companies still advertise their stuff with photos of crappy paint jobs.

Thats a great point. I mean you could probably take any of the top 1000 from CMoN, and offer nothing but free minis, and you'd have a ton of talented painters hocking your wares.

I've considered getting that Mech-Gore cyber-monkey thing before.

It'd make a great avatar :D

There are a few Superfigs minis that are really quite good. I'm always tempted when I go to Wargames World...

Ah, so you've seen some of these in person Scott?

How do they measure up, scale wize to other minis (privateer press, cell, etc)

The human sized figs are, well, human sized really! That big dude I painted is troll/ogryn sized. Deinitely fit into the 28-32mm bracket.

They are generally extremely stylised and the cast quality isn't the greatest. Saying that, they're not that expensive considering the amount of lead you get.

One or two of them are excellent.

Nope. That was a one off. Do a couple of 40mm ones that are similar though.

um...no, not yet.

Although I did just order them yesterday. Maybe I shouldn't start holding my breath just yet...

I ordered about 40 dollars worth of them, mostly from the 'brick' line. I shoulda got that giant monkey, but I thought I'd try a few before more...

It was sort of a personal joke.
My mom will often mail me something, then call me the next day to see if I got it.

I've picked up quite a few of them for myself and friends who play the Champions superhero RPG. They're okay in terms of sculpting quality. They range from decent to well, ham-fisted... :( Sometimes the sculptor will even make feet by placing a foot-shaped bit of putty and just pushing down the top - looks like someone mashed their foot! But they have "personality" and as we all know, personality goes a long way... ;)

I like some of them because they do "odd" stuff you won't get from the HeroClix supers. The giant brick in one of the posts is a good example, as is stuff like this:

I just like her stance (and she's twice human size!)
http://www.fourcolorfigs.com/images/gallery/gallery19-big.jpg

My friend bought him as a Nazi for his 1930's campaign:

http://www.fourcolorfigs.com/images/catalog/brawler03-big.jpg

Unforunately in general a lot of the minis aren't as cool as these... Partially it's the sculpting to blame. I've seen the concept art they posted and it's pretty decent.

Take care,
Laszlo

Yes, they came in the mail today. Veteran Day... :vb_tongue :vb_tongue

NO! Not yet. But I did get a confirmation in the email the other day....It just says I ordered stuff, but didn't say which.

The SUPER Nazi was one of the guys I did order. Along with several other in the BRICK category. I've been wanting to paint up a bunch of 'alternate WW2' minis, but mostly I'm just in the gathering stage... :peace:

At what point do I start to worry that my minis aren't arriving? Is a week much too soon?

I think I am spoiled by the quick turnaround some companies have. I ordered these figs from Old Glory Miniatures, anyone ever deal with them?

Buddha

Having viewed their gallery, I found nothing I would want to paint. The miniatures are for the most part crudely sculpted, often stiffly posed and anatomically incorrect and there wasn't a decent paint job on the whole site to do these figures justice. I'll give them a miss.

Welcome to the forums Buddha!

I think the charm of these minis for me is the fact they are a bit more crudely sculpted and anatomically incorrect.

No offense to Andy over at Heresy minis, but that's the same reason I love his stuff too. You will never confuse a Rackham sculpt with something Heresy puts out...which is the way it should be.

Different strokes for different folks I suppose, but I prefer minis with more character than plain perfection, and delicate details

I'm a ham fisted painter and try as I might I can't do justice to more delicate sculpts. I'd certainly like to, but I haven't been able to.

BTW...I STILL haven't got these in the mail yet...

Old Glory are in the UK aint they??

In which case, you have the joys of our postal system to deal with :D

A mini I posted five or six weeks ago reached New Zealand yesterday. It went by air too....

Better than the ground shipping I did for the contest originally - that took damn near three months for it to reach Sweden. I think they walked it across the ocean bottom.

Nope...Old Glory seems to be based right in the US of A...Georgia, in fact. That state seems to have a higher than usual per capita of 'mini-related' things...Several painters I know are from GA, Wyrd Games is from GA, New Wave is in GA.

Georgia also seems to have a higher per capita rate of UFO sightings...hmmm.

Heh, you wouldn't believe how many e-mails and messages I got having to field questions about whether or not Wyrd was associated with them.

ERm, NO!

Sorry for the double post...(not really) but just to put this thread to bed...

I did finally get all my 'Superfigs'. I really like them alot. They are filled with character. The molds are a bit rough, so they will take more time to clean. I will start painting a few soon, so look for them in about 6 years.

Hey Vike,
I realize this a rather old thread, but it's new to moi. I'm NOT a fan of Super Hero of any stripe, however, there are quite a few minis [& not so mini minis] in this range that I'd rate as cool [avoiding saying groovy]. The fact that these are not "state of the art" [neither am I; "state of the art" that is] is appealing to me; I really like taking a mini that may not at first glance look all that wonderful & making it into something special. Quite a few minis more than make up for a lack of detailing with an abundance of charater/personality. The Blue Moon Manufacturing range is another one of these mini makers that produce less than high quality minis that paint up very nicely.
Sooo.....Thanks for yet another good lead.

BTW Oh Renowned Moderator, does Alpha Forge accept money orders for on-line orders?

supervike
03-20-2008, 10:48 AM
Yup, there is a very nice charm that these minis have, and for some reason they look ok with my hackneyed paint jobs....

For those of you keeping score, I have painted only 2 of the superfigs I got.....AND, I did end up buying the hugely cool 'Mechanical Ape' I originally posted way back in the first post. I've got him assembled, but need to fix the 'airbubbles'. Its a resin kit, and pretty piss poor as far as casting quality goes. I'm sure I can fix it, though.

And, lastly....I'm not really sure about Alpha Forge taking money orders. They changed hands about 6 months ago, and I'm really not priivy to any of the dealings. Try Jay at the email of salesdroid@alphaforgegames.com or sales@oldglory15s.com (he's the feller that bought them up).

Heres the two I painted:

EXTREME closeup of a robot:

http://www.coolminiornot.com/pics/pics11/img45a70a0aaae86.jpg

And a 'bizarro' Wolverine. I made his claws out of sharpened bobby pins (pointy!!)

http://www.coolminiornot.com/pics/pics11/img44ce8298430c1.jpg

The amateurish sculpting really plays well with the sub-amateurish paint....

Cool job on the robot - I really like his cracks and weathering and such.

Hey Vike,
Thanks for the info. I have the same credit rating as a Banana Republic, so I'm dependent on the old money orders for purchases.

I think you're too modest. Both the minis rock; as Wren pointed out the cracks & weathering are well done, plus the glowing red lights are really cool. I like the five o'clock shadow on Wolverine. The claws look sharp [moan]. I have a habit of giving my minis' swords, axes, et al an edge; I moderated how sharp an edge after one of my sons sliced up his finger on one [he is or was rather proud of having a sword/duelling scar].
