I've never really gotten into Rackham, other than the pre-requisite Fiannas...They do have so gorgeous minis, but obviously nothing that has made me fall over myself to buy.

Still, I do love to see them painted up all proper by the 'masters'...

I don't like the Dirz. They don't really look like Dirz anymore, all... meh. I prefer the older Dirz minis.

The elemental looks like a Devourer head with wings to me.... don't like that one either.

I'm not a big fan of orcs and surely not of mongolians, so these are not for me either. Also, the paintjobs seem to be getting worse and worse... they are still leaps and bounds above the qualiry I churn out, but hey ;)

Basically I don't like any of them.

I'm not too keen on these either, but I have to disagree that the paintjobs get worse. They have a different look than their old stuff, but I don't think the quality has gone down, rather the oposite I'd say. Their new style is darker, more muted and more natural colours, whereas the older minis (those who are getting discontinued mostly) have more vibrant colour schemes. The old ones might be more eye-catching, but I think the newer style is of higher technical quality.

I agree with Mosch, that the Dirz don't look very "dirz-ish". They just look like Lions with different heads.

The air elemental looks like an armored weird dragon/tornado/seahorse cross. Not sure what I think of it. Maybe if I saw a painted version..

And I've never liked orcs of any kind... so no interest in those.

And I think the paintjobs are excellent, light-years better than the Magnicent Egos' ones.

rackham minis are nice to look at, but most of them don't scream "Paint me !!" ( well that might be a good thing, means I don't have to go to the doctor for a will ).
But I think they should have kept the original designs for the orcs. The own that had a more crocodile like face. At least it was a change from all the orcs you could see out there. Now they just seem to be the same as the Gw orcs dressed up with the ogre's outfits.

Okay... now I'm the bad guy who "swims" against the err.. general view.

I don't play neither Confro, nor RagNarok.
I do have the prerequisite Fiannas too.

I don't know if the first mini looks Dirz (whots a Dirz?) or not . I could imagine painting one of them though.
Same for the Orc. I'm not a fan of Orcs, but the mongolien one would be an interesting exercise. Hey, I just love to have fun and why not paint up an Orc for that
PEACE :peace:

Ok, I have to admit Rackham in general has been growing a touch stale to me. They focus on the same shapes over and over. All the cloth seems to have the same flip, all the armor has the same curve, etc... (of course doesn't universally apply, just in general). And not just individual faction style, but across the board. I think in the same ways the paint schemes are also getting stale, even if getting technically better. It's the same style/colors/tone/freehand paterns over and over and over and over.

Now I'm not saying their product is bad, I'm just saying that I haven't seen Rackham break any new ground in a LONG time, as they seemed to do monthly in their earlier days.

I don't really agree with you here Eric! Yes, there are certain similarties in style in both sculpts and paintjobs, but every painter and sculptor has his or her 'trademarks' and that is nothing unique for Rackham. Hasslefree minis are made in one certain style, Spyglass minis too and Freebooter and so on. If you happen to like the style of a particular line you're likely to appreciate most of the miniatures being produced and also see the subtle characteristics of each mini. Otherwise you're more likely to think everything looks the same. :)

The "Drirz" are cool, but the rest do nothing for me.

I don't like Rackham, but that is because I'm not the best painter and like stuff that is simple and not too over the top with detail. They are pretty to look at, but scare me when it comes to painting them.

I'm a lot like CL actually, :)

But Anders, I'm not saying they're bad, and I'm not saying they're not bits of individual flair, but where their style was interesting and new a couple years ago, now they really seem to be leaning heavily on the very similar shapes/styles in their sculpts. Again, this doesn't make it bad, but after 100's of minis they've produced I'm just saying I'm not wowed by that same dynamic over and over again.

Similarly with the paint jobs. They are awesome, just now wowing be as they did before.

@Eric: I think they come up with new things every now and then. Consider the total re-haul the goblins got recently with the Samurai-theme. Dirz also seem to be getting a new style with more mechanised miniatures. I understand what you mean though, by using similar poses and such. Maybe it doesn't evoke the same 'wow' it did the first couple of times you saw them, but it keeps me interested in them, at least.

I like the Dirz, the air elemental looks good, too, I'd like to see it painted.

I agree with you too, CL. The Rackham minis scare me. Still, we gotta get over these phobias...if you paint your Shanys, I'll paint mine.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v720/marineboy/icon_mrgreen.gif

There are quite a few Rackham minis who AREN'T covered in filigree and other tiny detail, and these are quite easy and very rewarding to paint.

I'll have to reread the catalog, Ritual....or I'll come up to Stockholm and you can point them out. :tea:

I don't like Rackham, the metal is too soft and the sculpts are too fiddly and skinny for my taste. The exception to this is the bogeyman they did ages ago but even then I bought a miscast and chucked it in the bin.
