IRON PAINTER 3 Official Kickoff!

Welcome paint fans, to the third season of the IRON PAINTER challenge.

We have plenty of new faces ready for the toughest, most grueling painting contest on the internet!

The contestant pool is a bit larger than in past outings, so lets hope for smooth sailing.

I know you are all dying to get started, so let me announce the Matchups and Theme for ROUND 1!

These matcups are completely random, I put 30 names in a hat, and drew them one at a time:

Now the Theme. I have 15 themes and I randomly chose one:

FLESH OF A DIFFERENT COLOR

How you interpret that is really up to you. But these contest is all about pleasing the judges (and we have FOUR of them this time: Frustrated Father, Ritual, Duende, and past Iron Painter Champion SKYA).
It could be a blue orc, or a purple human...Just a color that is not the 'norm'.


Remember smack talk IS encouraged...as is showing off your Works In Progress. There is no anonimity here. Note: Smack talk is not encouraged towards your fine emcee, supervike. He is supercool, leave him alone, and send him nice things.

The theme is what it is and you're free to interpret the theme in which ever way you want to! But, keep in mind that the judges will also interpret the theme when they hand out the theme points so if you make a far-fetched interpretation it might not be successful. But, then a far-fetched interpretation could also be VERY successful! Who knows? :)

I'm not going to tell you in advance wether I think a certain idea of yours is good or bad!

I think with this it would be easy to pick a human and paint the skin blue or something, the trick is making it look likes it meant to be blue.

My point was if I paint a miniature that is covered in scales instead of skin would that be "wrong" or does the "skin part of this challenge refer to the hide-scles-skin etc.

prep work pretty much finished. I am starting off with the same figure (pretty much) that got me knocked out last time. A plastic GW beastman. Originally I thought it may not lend itself to the idea I have but then I figure it probably shouldn't otherwise it would be different would it.

Well, I spent yesterday driving to my Inlaws and now I am reading all of these using dial up. So, I missed the misspelling. I wondered what the big red R was all about. As for waiting til round two for smack talk. You can do that, but it is more fun while you still have an opponent. As for my 39.5 to 38.5 victory, I only paint as hard as I have to. I have beaten the oscar winning queen once and I will do so again, and I was referring to vin'sgamerz model, not his person, although some may argue that it does apply.( note to Newbies, see IP2R1 )
Now, Flesh of a different color? These sneaky judges could take that many different directions. Fortunately, probably a different direction than vincegrimer will. Anyway, good luck to all of you newbies and oldbies.

Oh, mostly lazing about.

Had a nice walk around town* today looking to see if I saw any mini that took my fancy for this, but in the end bought the one I had decided to do. Cleaned and pinned (but not glued together) it just now.

I don't feel particularily hurried, really. One mini in two weeks isn't much. My record, but I don't want to do that again, is 256 romans (15mm) in two weeks.

There's an idea for another kind of IP contest entirely - quantity as much as quality, how many could be done in 2 weeks. Not that I'd ever enter this cause I paint very slowly, but might be fine for people with unpainted armies weighing them down. ;->

Im starting to think this is the "callum have a gloat" thread.

Smack talk by the newbies has been poor so far. All I hear is "I have a sore this, or I have a disabled that", and something that pains me, "all the best mate", or "good luck pal".

It makes me sick.

This is a WAR! Not a carebear convention where everyone is warm and cuddly. Get it together newbies, only a few days to go!

So anyway, Im going to post my entry tonight, just to warn you guys. Put the kids to bed early people cos this is going to get nasty. Hope your ready for a can of Whoopass shoddy.

In all my 15 years in the hobby I have never seen a dwarf with dark skin, white dwarf yes, black dwarf no, so yes I would say it is different coloured flesh!

Some thoughts about the round close....


We did have a few 'non-finishers' this time, so

Thryth, Dr. Evilmonki, Maestro, and Zeke get a free pass to the next round. I hope you all didn't use up your 'painting mojo' on this round. Congrats to you folks...don't feel bad about advancing 'unchallenged'...that is really part of the game.

If you were an opponent to these folks, please do the right thing and pay your 'entry fee'. If any of you don't get a entry fee in a reasonable time, please PM me and I will make it right.

Some of the matchups are just downright intriguing, and I can't wait to see the final scores....I have looked at all the entries, and there are a few matchups that I would hate to have to wager on.

For instance:

The Battle of the Newmonkeys "cdukino vs Malebolgia"....both with stellar entries!

Wren vs. Tab Studio....Reigning champ, Wren's first challenger since claiming the crown was not intimidated at all! Great stuff ladies!!

vincegamer vs. Lavron Yor.. In a grudge match special (these two have battled before) Vince seemed to pull out all the stops, but Lavron Yor's is gorgeous as well!

Henrix vs. Orky Dave another one where I dig both entries.....should be close.

To be honest, I don't think ANYONE has a slam dunk win here...and remember....the person with the highest non winning score will also advance, so NO ONE should lose heart just yet!

Thanks for giving us folks some insights to rd 1 while we impatiently wait for the results. Maestro entering into rd 2 with a "no-show" was expected. I knew that when he cut down on his smack talk, he must be busy with his underhand schemes to make his opponent not able to finish in time. Shame on you girly!

I do have some winners in mind for the tight match-ups but I rather let supervike do the final announcement. It's not wise to predict one's end too openly.

Well...I like to give the judges a few days before I unleash the hounds. I asked them kindly to have their results in by tommorow....Hopefully, then I will tabulate the results, fix my math errors, retabulate, refix math, buy calculator, retabulate, then post the results by THURSDAY....

Then Friday will be the NEW MATCHUPS and the NEW THEMES.

Well, I don't know about the other judges, but I'm still working on my scoring. I was planning on getting them done last night, but an ugly confrontation with my neighbors left me rather rattled and unable to concentrate on looking at paintjobs. But I'll hopefully get them done and in to Vike tonight and get to commenting on eveyones entries. A lot of great work by everyone, congrats!

I can't wait to see the results myself. It's my first time judging and (as far as I know) we judges don't share what are scores are with each other, so I have no idea how the others rated you. I consider my scoring tends to lean a bit more towards the "generous" side, and I'm anxious to see how the others did thiers.

I'm kinda worried though, does Vike have enough fingers and toes to be adding up the scores?

Cool. After a bit of math (not Vikes type of math, christ, I wouldnt know where to start!) I worked out I need 59 or more overall to improve on my IP2 entry. That scored 72% approx and 59 would be 73% perfect.

Follow that Vike? (oh, thats right, he aint in the comp so I shouldn be dishing the smack talk his way)
