Well hiya! I have been looking over the boards for the last week or so and after being inspired by some of the magnificent work here - dug the brushes out and got painting.
For those who don't know me - (wintersrainne on CMON) - I have been painting for the last 3 years - on and off - mostly off for the last 15 months. I am by no mean a prolific painter - probably around 30 or so minis...with my last one finished in Dec 05 - Blorg, Mudstomp.
So I have found my way back to the boards - and look forward to getting to know you guys. And I am looking forward to entering FFII.
My comeback mini is not super flash - I just needed to get painting again - get something finished. He is a gobbo from Crucible with one heck of a rock....
I am still struggling with the same issues as before - smoothness does not come easy for me - but I am reading up on it - I know in theory the thinning/layering concept - but it never quite comes out right for me...never fear - I will persevere....and I tried out a new style for me - going bright and bold in colour instead of more neutrals - not sure I like it - but we'll see...
So without further ado - here is my newest creation....

That mini deserves some kind of award for most bizarre sculpt ever... :hmmmm:
Nice paintjob! I only wish I could see the goblin better.
Welcome to Wyrd! I'm looking forward to seeing your FF2 entry(ies). :)

It is a nice job on a truly, interesting, miniature.
By way of critique, I think you should not have put him going up a steep incline. He definitely looks like he's toppling backwards.

Welcome to Wyrd, and that's a great weird mini to bring with you. I just saw it over at CMON and voted on it. Looking forward to seeing what you do for the FFII!

That is 'odd' to put it the least. Nice job on it though with some bold colors.
Welcome to the Wyrd Lisa.

Hello and welcome.
If your not using it, spray primer helps give you a smoth finish, if your primer is rough then it shows through.

That's is one wierd looking mini you got there. Looks like you managed to get the bold colour look you tried to acheive. I particularly like the basework.

Thanks for all the feedback - and the compliments - especially on the base...I'll try to address everyone's questions...
As to the "wyrdness" of this mini - tis true - there is a whole set of these type goblins - but he is the only big rock carrier. I will see about painting up more of these guys from time to time.
Do you have a pic with the gobbo´s front?
I do now....

I only wish I could see the goblin better. Here you go - best I can do til my camera recharges....

By way of critique, I think you should not have put him going up a steep incline. He definitely looks like he's toppling backwards. This was part of the humor of the piece that was lost in translation, if you will. Everyone says the same thing... :dong: My intention was to highlight the task - maybe the rock thinks the same thing - or the goblin has no other way to get it where it's going - it is supposed to look difficult, precarious, and outlandish....didn't quite come off that way....
How is the WyldWood Project coming along? I closed the site during my drought - and am considering a redesign - but have a bit on my plate right now so we'll see....thanks for asking!
If your not using it, spray primer helps give you a smoth finish, if your primer is rough then it shows through. Thanks! But I can't blame the primer - I use GW spray on - so any roughness is my fault alone....:)
Thanks again for all the welcomes and the comments - I look forward to seeing you guys work and displaying more of my own....

I have a correction - he is actually an Orc Totem Bearer from Crucible (made by Ral Partha - now Iron Wind Metals) - I finally found him on a site tonight....
