January News: Pictured proof: studio / production.
January will see the arrival of the first unit boxes of the AT-43® range.
With these boxes you will be able to realize how high the level a painting of the range is.
For the more prudent of you out there, here is the pictured proof with this comparison between the miniatures from the production line and those from our best reference: the miniatures painted by studio RACKHAM!
Discover on these pictures the painting of the Steel trooper, Storm Golem and Steel TacArm unit boxes.
The miniature on the left of each picture was painted by our RACKHAM painters, and the miniature on the right is to one in the box.

Okay. The first dude is a real eyeopener. The Production piece imo is AWFUL!
I like best the last one, here there is no such discrepancy between the two.
But: No sir, don't like it.

Keep in mind, that these are sold pre-painted and the primary customer base are gamers who don't paint and don't want to either. As pre-painted minis, they are OK, I think. They generally don't look too good.

That's why I don't like prepainted minis. To be affordable the y cannot be good.

No, neither do I, but then we aren't the intended customers for these minis! ;)

Well, affordable, I don´t know. The starter box is still 80€. I find that pretty much for prepainted plastics, even if there´s a rulebook plus some scenery in it.
Paintjob is ok for pre-painted. I´ve got some DnD plastics, they are worse.

They look reasonable but not my cup of tea, I like to put bad paint jobs on myself.

There's nothing stopping you! Just because they're pre-painted there's nothing that says you can't paint them!

I bought the starter set (I preordered it and got it for 59 bucks!). I was very happy with the quality of the prepainted stuff...Its much better than 'heroclix'.
I think I got a very good deal, as there are 19 miniatures (two of them are chunky robots), scenery, rules, dice, measuring tape, and playsheet.
The rulebook is VERY basic, although it is decieving as it looks like a thick book. Actually its only about 20 pages of material, the rest is just repeated in various languages.
The rules are simple for me to understand so far....I've played through a couple of the scenarios and it seems fun.
I've noticed that 'future' releases are going to be much higher prices (a unit is about 25 bucks) so I am not sure how much I will be getting into it.
One very cool aspect was that although it was glued together, I very carefully cut along the seam on the cockpit of the Firetoad (the 'goodguys' mech) and lo and behold once I removed the panel, it had a DETAILED cockpit---complete with controls and seat. None of that is prepainted, but it makes you wonder why they would add detail to a part that would never be seen?
I think the golgotha (the badguys mech) is probably the same way, but I haven't tested that yet.

For painters like us who want to do dioramas and have an open cockpit ;).

Yeah, I'm real happy about it...but I would imagine a huge percentage of these will never be cracked open.....
It wasn't easy to crack it open either.

Because it's been stated that there'd be an unassembled, unpainted version of it - I think that sort of detail is what people who buy those versions will get to see...
