As the 2nd Iron Painter comes to a close, I just have to say 'whew'!

As far as online competitions go, this has got to be the most grueling, and every round the painters really accomplished something pretty damn amazing.

Thanks to the judges, EricJ, Ritual, and Frustrated Father. The early rounds were especially tough on them (with all the entries) but they battled through without a single complaint.

Thanks to all the painters, and thanks to all the lurkers for making 'smack talk' as fun as painting!

So, without further delay....

The winner of the 2nd IRON PAINTER is

WREN!

Amazing job. Official scoring to follow....Wren if you'd care to PM me your address, (or if you have PAYPAL) and I will get your winnings out. Also, I believe you should be recieving some of WRYDS latest...I'll get that sorted too.

Thanks again everyone!

Wow, I am really floored by this. I entered for a bit of challenge and fun, I never expected to make it to the final round. And as SV says, whew, cause it's a bit of a relief to be off the merry-go-round for a time! I really enjoyed seeing all the creativity and skill on display by my fellow entrants, and have great respect for all of them, particularly those I 'met' personally in each round. I know it could easily have gone the other way every round.

Thanks so much to EricJ, Ritual and FF for their hard work judging. It was very evidently a lot of work to comment on and judge each entry, and while the amount of entries decreased each round, I'm guessing the decision making process for scores didn't get any easier. Thanks all to supervike for coming up with this craziness and running it so efficiently. And thank you to all the spectators - well-wishers, naysayers or inbetween, your reactions and opinions really helped make it interesting.

Yay!

Congratulations Wren! :star:

I also like that in a seemingly male-dominated hobby, for far it's been the ladies who have been taking the Iron Painter crown.

You go girl! :girl:

Hm, well if we get that crown remade as a tiara, none of the gents will want it and we'll be able to keep it on the ladies' side. ;-> Oh wait, then Eric, FF and Ritual will just start fighting over it to go with their lingerie ensembles, nevermind...

Well done Wren! If you could kindly PM me your details I'll be sending a mini your way too.

I'm really glad to have come this far and its been a long journey. Putting all the smack aside I'm really drained and would really consider if I'm gonna join the next one. I'm sure anyone who had made it to rd3 or rd4 should know the stress behind.

To my supporters, sorry to have disappointed you guys. Especially Callumrice who has been very kind to have cheered for me on all this while. Also to all those who have helped with my brainstorming for ideas and offering critics on my entries.

Finally to thank Nathan, EricJ, Ritual and supervike for their valuable time in this contest. Wow I feel like a winner too saying all this lol.

Congratulations, Wren! Well done by both you and Stupidcow. I thoroughly enjoyed following this from the shadows. I'll join in on the thanks to supervike, Nathan, EricJ, and Ritual for all their hard work and effort.

So when is the next IP? :ahhhhh:

I rather like the Iron Painter as it is interesting to see how this worked out and how things progressed with the matchups as some of the more skilled painters were knocked out very early due to opponents or theme adherance where as some others who might not be top of the game with the paint pushed ahead with unique and well thought out pieces which garnered them additional points, etc.

for me I like the fact that folks have pushed themselves in this competition, taking new directions with themes and ingredients and suddenly find themselves having to 'think and do' when it comes down to the painting and type of miniature and the good natured ribbing helps keep it fun as well. :D

Well done everyone and I myself am once again looking forward to the next IP.

Here are the Themes that never got chosen....

I'd love more ideas so I can keep a list of them all....

Green with Envy (the idea was to feature the color Green)
Four Colors (you choose which four, but no more, no less)
Skin of A Different Color (up to your interpretation)
All Your Base (Emphasis on the basing and presentation of a mini)
The Color Purple (mini has to feature purple)
Wet T-shirt Contest (sheer clothing)
Camoflauge (again, up to the painters discrestion to interpret)
BRIGHT IDEA! (had to use a bright paint scheme)
Winter (interpretation of the word)
Danger!! (had to present Danger somehow)

More ideas?

The next IRON PAINTER won't start be right away, but maybe in a month or two......

More ideas?

"Say Hello to my little friend..." - mini has to be toting a gun of some kind

"Are you familiar?" - mini has to be with an animal of some kind

"Don't be a Yellow-belly." - mini features yellow, another difficult color

Just some ideas! :D

I was trying to think of variations for Winter, maybe instead of Winter something like Some Like it Hot and the flip side, Cold Day in Hell, where mini choice, colour palette and basing could all come into it?

Deep blue sea or something vaguely maritimey, which could be open to anything from a ship to a sea creature to the ever popular pirate to being conveyed through basing.

It's Elemental my Dear Watson. Left open to interpretation that could really cover a lot of ground - elementals, something involving the elements, mystery related stuff.

Give Peace a Chance - nothing martial or military or weapony or armour-y in the whole piece, or maybe leave it more open.

There's loads for the colours - Paint it Black, Knights in White Satin, Red Rain, Mellow Yellow, you could go on with those all day.

I can't think of a funny title for it, but something to do with the less used senses. Viewing minis is all about seeing, obviously, but most minis themselves focus on that, trying to do something that evokes or relates to the senses of smell or hearing or taste would be pretty challenging. So if I sign up to the next IP, please scratch this idea. ;->

For your senses,

Something stinks

Say what?

Eye see

Feels like.......

This leaves a bad taste...

I like the idea of a colour - themed IP. Make a list of colours and choose one for each round randomly.

More ideas for themes:

"Naughty but nice"

"Forward to the Future" - Sci-Fi only for the round

"Lunatic" - Lycanthropy and the mentally challenges

"From Hell" - Demons and Devils
