Ok...this is a smidge early, but it is officially Friday somewhere. I am not sure if I will get time on the PC tommorow (work has been crazy) so I thought I would post the matchups now.

I assume you are all familar with the RULES....IF not here you go...

http://www.wyrd-games.net/showthread.php?t=1173

The only changes are the new DEADLINE which is now...

SATURDAY OCT 14th 6pm Central Standard Time (thats IOWA time!)

Here are the matchups, in no particular order (these were randomly drawn from the Victors from Round 1)

Dr. Evilmonki vs.Lavonyor

Stupid Cow vs. Skya

Hoblit vs. Wren

Matty1001 vs. Maestro

Red vs. Beezlebrush

mlavanish vs. sculpta the squig

Wargriffon vs. James9487

The THEME....

drumroll please ....(also drawn randomly from the original theme list....

FREEHAND!! Very loose interpretation here. I assume you all know what it means. If not, find out. The theme is an important scoring element, your miniature should include some sort of freehand design element to it. No limit on miniature type, manufacturer, or even size (anything less that a 1:1 scale is a mini as far as I am concerned)

Gulp!

Good luck, the contest begins NOW!

Freehand, ooo, exciting! I've been wanting to do some for a while so here's my chance.

(serious face on) It is go-time wargriffon. You ready?

DrEvilmonki
09-28-2006, 11:20 PM
Oh Fcuk me! When it comes to freehand I truely am a monki! A retarded monki with two left feet!!!

Fortunately seeing who my opponent is fills me with a serene sense of confidence which will see me breeze merrily into round 3.

Freehand? Didn't Skynrd do that song?

EricJ

interesting one! And one that can also be done in tons of different ways, I'm looking forward to seeing how you all make your minis shine!

Freehand?? Phah! I was doing freehand when you all were still wee young!

Does painting with any parts on your body other then your hands count as "free"hands? I could paint with my armpit if I wanted to. :bandit:

Cool theme! I look forward to seeing the entries (and kicking half of you out of the competition :bandit: ).
Good luck to all contestants! You will need it! :vb_devil:

Oh lord, what a theme. Well, my husband keeps telling me I need to get off my butt and do some freehand work. Guess now's the time.

Well then you'll need alot of luck, cos I've been freehanding since 3 years old.:bird:

Supervike, what's the theme for round 3?? So I can buy new models for both rounds this saturday..!

So if a mini is holding a sword in one hand then it's other is its freehand?
I think I understand this theme now. Sounds easy!

Maestro
09-29-2006, 04:59 AM
MrEvilape, take away the sword and you've got yourself a model with multiple freehands!!!

Stupidcow
09-29-2006, 05:19 AM
I'm just looking forward to meeting you in RD 3, if you ever make it there Maestro. Now to teach that Skya not to take it out on me using other's model.

Hoblit
09-29-2006, 06:46 AM
Hmm. Freehand. Going to have to go hunt for some suitable models. I'm sure I've got some hiding away somewhere.

Now all that's left to do is scare Wren off. Maybe I should send her random pictures of my mini's. That should reduce her to a bit of a wreck, purely from looking at the abysmal paintjobs.

matty1001
09-29-2006, 09:15 AM
Well i should do better on this one than the last round, iv picked a mini that is more suited to my 'comfort zone'. I shouldnt be to bad at the freehand if i just take my time.
O and maestro, i would prefer the 5 dollars.

vincegamer
09-29-2006, 09:23 AM
Oh Fcuk me! When it comes to freehand I truely am a monki! A retarded monki with two left feet!!!
That shouldn't be a problem. Monkeys can hold brushes with their feet!

You're all lucky I'm not in this anymore because I would have done something involving a hand that was free.
Maybe a model of Thing from the Adams Family.

LavronYor
09-29-2006, 08:07 PM
Vince I hope you send me a really crappy model, that way I can regift it to DrEvilMonk, in the unlikely event that he wins. If I can barely beat a Lawyer, a retarded monkey should not be too tough. Wait, aren't those the same thing.

And DrMonkEvil, If he is holding a sword in one hand and rolls double ones and cuts off his other hand then it is a freehand. I expect to see lots of Nurgle models for this. Or Ogres, cause they have layers, like onions.

DrEvilmonki
09-29-2006, 09:11 PM

Plastic mini eh? Mine's solid gold and is currently painting itself.... :bandit: I'm off for a beer (I'll do the freehand when I've had a few jars.... then I'll start choosing a mini for the next round :D)

I love the fact the not only does LavonYor have smack talk for his new opponent, he doesn't give a free pass to his old one!!

And I love the freehand formula! That doesn't look complicated at all.

09-30-2006, 12:01 PM
The bad news for you James is that you are not getting an easy win yet.

The bad news for me however is I have until Monday evening to find a suitable mini to paint freehand on and take pics. Hmm that means that very nice Pegaso Female Samuri is out of the question this time (54mm figure in 2 and a bit days...I think not)

Yes I am back we didn't sail however they are going to try again Tuesday.

The question you will need to ask yourself James is will I finish in time and what will it be :D and when will you get to see it :D

Cheers for the formula Beelzebrush, I've decoded it, and its working out a treat. God, your so going down this time partner. this plastic mini is so good it looks like a 54mm mini, lol.

Been too quiet lately. Has the theme scared everyone into hiding under their granny's skirt? If not at least show us what you have there.

Malebolgia
10-05-2006, 06:57 AM
Seems quite obvious to me...all the cool guys are gone after round 1. Now the competition is stuck with weirdos and nerds.
You can't help it guys...it's genetic. Just accept it and keep on painting in silence. The cool guys will be back with IPIII

I am putting the finishing touches on my GD entry (1 day to go).
I have converted and primed my figure. Once GD has gone I will paint something and recommence the smack talk.

The others are quiet because they are having to concentrate so hard! (I can just picture it - a look of frustration on their faces, beads of sweat on their foreheads, tips of their tongues poking out, as the try in vain to paint a thin straight line. A graceful tear slowly rolls down the cheek as they realise they simply don't have enough talent!)

LavronYor
10-05-2006, 09:54 AM
Wow, that is right on, I am so scared, wait, let me stop laughing at that last post.

Now there is no cause to swear at your GDamn mini. It is your lack of skill, not its.

Well, I am putting some WIMP pix up so everyone have a good laugh. I am doing the Extreme Painting Makeover for my mini.

Malebolgia
10-05-2006, 10:06 AM
You people actually have to sweat or work on freehands?! Bunch of n00bs! Freehands are easypeasy. As Maestro would say: "They're his middle name...between theme queen and big girl's blouse!".

@Monkey: Show us pictures of your GD entry...Show us...show us...SHOW US ;)! You have been teasing for weeks now. Come on...shohow uhus!

I had to stop painting at 2am since my eyes were to blurry. Have added the first layer of water effects on the base (nothing elaberate). Will finish off the final bits of painting this evening, then touch up a couple of edges the paint has worn off.
If I have time after that I may take pictures and you may even see them.

ALSO....Valloa has graciously donated lots of pre-cast resin bases. I'd love to use these as participation prizes, so any of you 'losers' from round one can also PM me and I'll get you some sent out.

I had cleaning for in-laws last week, then in-laws this past weekend, and game convention running from Thursday night on this weekend, so I've been squeezing in time here and there where I can for my entry, but haven't really had time to do WIP or anything. My entry is up in the gallery. Warning! I shall not be held responsible for any Wyrd behaviour as listed after seeing the photo:

3. Loading all your painting equipment, models & yourself onto the rubbish truck
4. Any form of sucidial attempts

Hoblit
10-12-2006, 02:42 AM
Wren. Just remember who your competition is. Posting a half painted entry might be good enough to get you through.

I'd hate to start earning a reputation for scaring people off and winning by default. Of course, it's probably the only way to win.

All I have left to do is take a decent photo (Going to be difficult considering my painting is so bad)

Wren
10-12-2006, 10:23 AM
Hey Hoblit. You were pressed for time last time and entered something last minute, so I'm not making any assumptions about being able to just phone in a win. :-> Though depending on what I get finished today, my only option might be posting a 3/4 finished mini.

vincegamer
10-12-2006, 11:15 AM
Take a tip from me then. I will confess to doing this in the first Iron Painter.
Since it's only on-line and you only have to submit 1 pic, I didn't bother to paint the back of my mini. Saves tons of time.

10-13-2006, 01:25 AM
I don't know if I could figure out how to paint just one side of a mini. It would probably take me longer to break the habit of painting 'in the round' than to actually paint in the round. ;-> I got my painting done tonight, and I managed everything I planned other than the original basing idea, which I had dropped when I learned of the in-law invasion. There were some annoying bits along the way, but I'm pretty happy with it in the end. Photos will have to wait until tomorrow evening. Hopefully a full day of either teaching people board games or waiting around for people to teach board games to who never show up won't tire me out too much to take and edit photos.

Wren
10-13-2006, 01:27 AM
Spooky, we were writing at the same time, Hoblit. Looks like your new mini isn't approved yet on CMON, but I'll try to take a look tomorrow before I head out for the convention. Good luck to you also, I'm glad we both managed to finish this one!

Appreciate it.

That being said, of course everyone wants more space, who doesn't, but frankly, I do have unlimited storage space, just the thing you have to take into consideration is bandwidth if there are a lot of hits.

So, if I was to allow a bit more space, for perhaps just the contests, what would folks think is a good stopping point? Me, I do think you can get in a good picture at 250k, but, I'm open to suggestions. 300k, 350k, 700k ...talk to me, and let me know what you think size wise would help you out, particularly in contests.

DrEvilmonki
10-14-2006, 04:59 AM
I do have a couple of minis I submitted to CMON which are closer to 300k. But to be honest I don't think the quality difference when you photoshop them down as low as 50% actually justifies it.

Skya
10-14-2006, 05:33 AM
300k is my standard max for my website. It's not a space or bandwidth issue as much as that's as big as I really want people to need to spend time downloading if they're on a slower connection.

Wren
10-14-2006, 10:03 AM
I think 300k sounds good too, though I'm okay with the 250 if it stays at that also.

Alrighty Barry and I have been working on this last night/this morning (that would be DEM for you slow ones) over his pictures and 'something' is adding to the size of this picture while it is being uploaded as both of us have made the picture under 250k and uploaded it (which it accepts). When it gets to Wyrd it finds itself at 900k+ which means it is either putting on weight when it gets here or there is a glitch making it look bigger than it actually is as the site actually allows it to be uploaded where some of you have tried to upload a larger picture and have been rebuffed.

Anyhoo - I'm giving a pass here on this one myself unless Jim says otherwise, but I assure you, when the bugger was uploaded (multiple times, my computer, Barry's computer, me fiddling with it in photoshop and Barry doing the same) it picked up weight. I did virus scans on it too just to make certain and that isn't a problem, just in case anyone gets a bit squirelly on that.

LavronYor
10-14-2006, 11:33 AM
As the cheating dog is my opponent, I have no problem with the fair and impartial judges at this excellent site wink, wink. Besides, it just shows us that if you trim a Sharpie ( giant black permanent ink marker, in case they aren't called that down under and to the left) enough, even a monki can do freehand. Just kidding DEM:-)

Barry offered to photoshop mine so that it gained weight as well. All I can figure is that his beast man ate a bag of rocks. Still, best of luck to all.

Notice to you all...

Remember, since we have an odd number of 'battles' this time, one of the vanquished will be awarded the HEY GIVE ME ANOTHER CHANCE prize....

From the rules:

4. It is possible to have an odd number of entrants left after any given round. SO, that being the case, the judges will designate a "HEY GIVE ME ANOTHER CHANCE" award. This award will be for a very close runner-up, and will be allowed to advance to the next round.

Unfortunately, this rule is slightly vague, and just so you know I am on the up and up, the way it will work is simply this. After the scoring is tallied, the artist with the higest scoring (but still losing contestant) will be announced. If there is any sort of scoring tie, I will ask the judges to break the tie.

Does this sound fair to everyone? Hurry up and answer, we only have a few days!!

I'm in the same boat as Anders, but I'll try and get my comments and voting done in the next day or so.

As for the 'another chance' sounds good to me, but I would suggest an ammendment to the rules in the future to all that to encompass all entrants from the first round to the near last as this way someone that has been booted out early on has a chance to still come back a few rounds later, particularly when you have some high calibre entrants facing off on each other from the get go. Just a thought ...

I agree with Nathan :P

I'm fine if the voting and comments take a little extra time, gives me a bit longer to work on something for Rotten Harvest. ;-> Nathan's method sounds reasonable to me for the second chance prize.

I wanted the results yesterday!! BUT..... I am sure that the excellent and impartial judges are doing their best and when real life allows, will make the proper comments and vote accordingly. Actually, I think the extra slot should go to any who want a second chance versus the highest score of round two.( kind of a beat the king of round two, for a chance at round four) just a thought.

I am happy whatever the way (just to be completely unhelpful!).

I did think from the original exert, that anyone from any of the rounds would be eligible to be reenlisted, but someone kicked out in round one might not be taking any notice of later rounds where as the people from the current round would be keen and ready.

Oh and you all suck at painting, why you still try is just beyond me!

I like Nathan's idea too. Would be nice to have peeps from a couple rounds back eligible to get back in if their score was that good.

Thats the way I imagined it. Lets go with that for this 'Season' (the GIVE ME A 2nd CHANCE person comes from the CURRENT round), I can always tweak the rules for the next time.

Damn. I was ready as hell! ;)

Sorry Mal...

I know you certainly deserved another chance, but as I gave this more thought, taking a person from the current round makes the most sense.

Otherwise, I'd have to keep track of the high scoring 'loser' of every single round, and we could have multiple rounds where I would have to consult back and compare all the contestants.....

This seems the most straightforward and to me the most fair.

Sure. I understand dude, no problem :). The rules were stated before the contest, so I knew how it would be done.
Next time I will be like a wrecking ball in IPIII...kicking major @ss and stuff. That way I don't need a jury's pass to continue!
