With out latest releases as well as another nine miniatures which we'll be releasing in limited numbers (due to casting deadlines) at GenCon of our slightly less serious and more over the top line, we thought it was about time for us to run, and sponsor, a contest strictly for Wyrd Miniatures.

As this is our first solely sponsored event, we thought we had best pull out all the stops and do something special for the prizes, and to that end we have shanghied Eric Johns (EricJ) studio paint production of Ramos - Steampunk Sorcerer!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v518/southernphuk/Finals/Ramos-Final.jpg

This contest round will be run differently than our previous contests and because of it's nature, also has some important changes added. Please read the following post entirely and carefully as we don't want any hard feelings or disqualifications due to rule breaking or bending. If you have any questions, ASK! We will be happy to answer them.

The theme for this round of contest is 'Something Wyrd'. As you might guess from the theme name, this round is for any painted miniature produced by Wyrd. Any Wyrd miniature may be entered in the contest. Other miniatures may be used as long as a Wyrd miniature is the focal point of the diaroma or base. Conversions are allowed and even encouraged!

As this round is for Wyrd's line of Miniatures, it makes sense that Wyrd is the one and only sponsor for this round. The prizes will consist of:

Grand Prize: You might remember the wonderfully object light source painted version of Ramos - Steampunk Sorcerer that was done for Wyrd by EricJ.... Well this extraordinary piece is our Grand Prize! You can see the painted version here (Ramos (http://wyrd-games.net/www.wyrd-games.net/pictures/ramos.jpg)) or in person at our booth in GenCon. The Grand Prize winner of this contest gets to keep this awesome miniature.

First Place: A $50.00 USD Wyrd store gift certificate.

Second Place: A $30.00 USD Wyrd store gift certificate.

Third Place: A $15.00 USD Wyrd store gift certificate.

Random Schmuck Prizes:

A special Steampunk Arachnid Swarm painted by EricJ!

Three Wyrd store gift certificate prizes of $10.00 USD each

The contest will run from August 2nd to September 10th and during that time competition entries can be submitted. At the close of the contest, voting will commence for one week where you will be allowed to vote anonymously through the Wyrd forum software as well as leave comments and critique which we have found our previous entrants have greatly enjoyed. For this round public voting only counts for a portion of the votes used to determine the winners. The public vote totals will be taken into account and combined with the votes from Wyrd staff voters to determine the winners. After the voting, announcements will be made and prizes sent to the winners, along with the random prizes that we give away with every contest.

In order to participate in the contest you must create an account on the Wyrd Miniatures website in order to submit an entry and to vote in the polls which will decide the winners of the contest. You are encouraged to enjoy the forums and participate, but it is NOT required in any fashion in order to enjoy the Wyrd Painting Contest.

Wyrd staff CAN enter the contest and have a chance to win. In doing so, they are excluded from the Wyrd voting staff.

When participating in the competition, you must submit a miniature that is in line with the current THEME that is being hosted. The miniature MUST be a miniature manufactured by Wyrd Miniatures. You may use other companies miniatures, but only to add to the Wyrd miniature or to add scenic effects. The Wyrd Miniature MUST be the primary miniature and clearly the focus of your entry. Conversions and diorama's are both allowed and encouraged.

By entering the contest, and uploading your pictures you grant Wyrd the right to use, publish, or otherwise reproduce copies of your entry. All submitted picture entries become the property of Wyrd and may be used in any means Wyrd deems fit. Disqualification does not terminate this agreement. All submissions are considered agreement and consent of the above contest conditions. Appropriate acknowledgement of painters will be given. If you do not agree, do not enter.

All submissions must be yours alone, no passing off of someone else's work as your own. You CAN submit a miniature that someone else has converted or sculpted for you though - just not painted, based .. etc.

You are allowed to submit MULTIPLE entries to the contest. As many as you can paint, you can submit.

The miniature cannot have been displayed in any form elsewhere on the internet or published mediums such as magazines. ALL entries must be new unseen paint jobs! All contest entries will be displayed anonymously to prevent unfair advantages based on name (this isn't a popularity contest) and thus there can be no signatures or watermarks upon any entries. No announcing on forums, webpage, blogs or any other type of medium about the type of miniature that you will be painting, nor concept sketches.

When photographing and editing your pictures, please submit them in .JPG (JPEG) format, with a file size of no larger than 250k. Photographs can be no larger than 800 pixels wide. I'm not much worried about length as it will allow you to fit in angles of the photograph. If you send me a photograph that doesn't fall within the limits prescribed above, it will be deleted. Due to the sheer number of people that have entered unedited photographs in the past we will no longer do any editing for you. There are many free photo resizing programs out there. You can find one here at http://www.irfanview.com/ Wyrd staff will attempt to notify anyone who's pictures were deleted due to size or for any reason, but can not guarantee notification.

Miniatures can be submitted at any time during the contest until voting starts. None will be showcased till the day after the final submissions date. Submissions will be accepted up till Midnight, EASTERN U.S. time, on the closing date of the currently running contest. Submissions after the cut off date will NOT be accepted, no exceptions.

In order to submit an entry for the contest, go to the current contest gallery and upload your entry. As the gallery is set for moderation, your submission will NOT show up immediately but will instead wait for me to review and edit accordingly. When submitting your contest entry, please take the time to describe the miniature and as well as any other contest notes you wish me to review before editing. DO NOT add any webpage links, mention of your name/handle, links to larger pictures or any other form of personal identification to your description. Due to the amount of pictures that contained personal information in their descriptions in the last contest, these pictures will not be edited by Wyrd staff and will be deleted. Wyrd staff will attempt to contact anyone who's entry has been deleted to let them resubmit but can not guarantee notification.

At the closing date of the contest, the submissions will be published to the proper contest gallery, anonymously, and the voting will begin.

In order to vote, you must be a registered member of the website.

A poll with your choice of winners will be presented to you where you select your favorites. While viewing the contest submissions in the gallery, you will be allowed to leave comments and critique on the entry. Please try to be constructive with these comments, as they will be published publicly once reviewed by a Moderator!

Public Voting will be open for seven days immediately after polls are posted for the contest. The public vote totals will be taken into account and combined with the votes from Wyrd staff voters to determine the winners. Entries will be voted on technical merit, creative display and the situations presented. After the voting, announcements will be made and prizes sent to the winners, along with the random prizes that we give away with every contest.

Should there be any questions, or if anything is unclear, PLEASE take the time to ask in the forums as that is the quickest way to receive clarification on a subject as well as bring it to the attention of others.

Just so this isn't lost in a sea of replies ....

READ THE RULES!

I can't stress that enough this time around folks as we've had a lot of problems in the past with individuals claiming ignorance of the rules and its guidelines, thus this time about the announcement AND the rules are being posted together so that there is no confusion. We have had to do a LOT of editing in the past and it takes up way too much time, both from myself and my staff which has been helping out in tremendous ways.

Looking forward to your entries.

How soon is soon? Even if I pick them up at GenCon next week, that's barely three weeks to attempt to paint something. :-< Ah well, no one's fault but my own I'm such a slow painter. :->

So when is the deadline?

Does it have to be a Wyrd miniature?

JUST KIDDING!!! I am really looking forward to this one, I will try my hardest to whip up something wyrd but cool.

Just a quick, minutiae question about anonymity.
The rule says not published in "any medium."
What about email? I told someone what I was going to do with this particular mini before the contest was announced. I trust that person to be discreet, but technically that is publishing it in some medium, and that person will be able to spot my finished work - of course so should anyone who knows me, but that's a different matter.

[edit] I should note that the mini is still pristeen so no WIP pics have been seen by anyone, not even me.

Well if that person is not discreet, it'll be a disqualification. Email, AIM, word of mouth all count. If you've shared concepts, plans, etc..even if its not started and someone shares/outs the finished mini it'll be disqualified.

Sounds sweet, already have a couple ideas. Now just need to make time to paint these, my ideas for the Exodus Road contest, and the IWM (though this one is low on the priority list). No pink armor this time, I promise.

I'm primed and ready to paint. I'll probably need to get some more paints. (I think I fell in love with the reaper series from Gen Con, who knew?) I think I might actually be at least mediocre this time around!

I spent a while this morning on a fine detail, and I'm done with the, um, won't say cause it could give away a hint, but I've got color on almost the entire mini now.
When's the deadline again?
I really need to start my H/H diorama :)

Good deal.

I refuse, absolutely REFUSE to answer anymore questions of 'when is the deadline' as it is at the top of the thread, and on the front page, in a banner.

vincegamer
08-22-2006, 09:23 AM
Fine, make me read the front page again....
Anyway, September 10 is 19 days away. That's plenty of time to finish this and probably the next and STILL have time for the H/H diorama.

Hiya,

After my last DD (due to my own stupidity), I'm coming back for this one. Specially ordered a model and painted it in over a week's spare time. I'm quite pleased with the results but still can't really get a good photo of it which is bothering me abit.

How many entries have you had so far?

Frustrated Father
09-04-2006, 11:00 AM
Ten or so, but that's usually not surprising as the entries usually make dramatic leaps the last three days or so of the contest. Of course, I'll be completely knackered if it is a bust.

Only 10? Hopefully more will come at the last minute. It could be worse, it could be like a Catholic Mass where most of the people come 15 minutes after the thing started. :ahhhhh:

I'm starting to remember why I hate these contests. You paint a mini, submit it, and have to sit on your but for days and weeks without being able to tell the world, "Look at the recent piece of ... I just painted." My hasslefree girls on the boardwalk is taking a beating on CMON, my Reaper exchange mini (a phoenix) is crashing and burning, and the best mini I've painted this year is "classified." (OK perhaps I'm exaggerating a bit.)

I've got the paint work pretty much finished on mine, but there's some stuff that has to set and photos to take yet, so I still might end up in the last minute submission crew. I have a second entry assembled that I'm going to try to paint, but as I'm having visitors arrive on the weekend and need to do a fair bit of house cleaning, I'm not going to make any promises on that one. ;->

The quality of the entries was relatively high. Many more talented people than myself. I fear I won't get a single vote this time around. :(

I was just re-reading the rules to see what fabulous prizes I have a snowball's chance in hell of winning.
It just occurred to me that it is possible for Eric to win his own mini.
Wouldn't that be a hoot?

Frustrated Father
09-15-2006, 11:35 AM
Damn, someone is onto us about rigging the contest ...

:D

Seriously, no, Eric wasn't 'allowed' to enter this contest (not that you can actually get him to enter any mind you) as the prize being given away was his. Mr. Eklund also stayed away from the contest as he is so involved with things around here and manages to steamroll sometime when unleashed. So, on that account, both EricJ and Ritual won't be competition in this contest.

EricJ
09-15-2006, 12:21 PM
Yeah, if I remember correctly it went something like this:

Nathan: I guess I better state that you're not allowed to enter
Eric: no way! that's not fair!
Nathan: Ok, since you're so totally awesome as a person, I'll let you enter (don't know why he started talking "californian" here, wierd)
Eric: damn right biatch, I'm going to start on something now!
Nathan: Can't wait to see what you come up with!
Eric: Did I say right now...errr, I meant once I get some other stuff done, clean my house, pet my cat for a while, cure cancer...
Nathan: Well let me know, I can send you anything you'd want
Eric: yeah...um, can we change the subject now?
Nathan: Ok, I'll go ahead and state you're not allowed to enter
Eric: Probably best...

My fault - I've been working 14 hour shifts this week since last Saturday and between some small amount of sleep and drive time back and forth to work, I've got about an hour to get 'chores' done which includes anything Wyrd and then five or ten minutes here or there to check on the site while on breaks at work.

All votes are in, I'll do the tally by Friday at the latest and get them posted. My apologies for the delay but there are bills to be paid!

Pay the bills first ... actually earn the money to pay the bills first, then pay the bills second ...

No worries, FF! Thanks again for all the hard work.

haha, so admit it Nathan, it was me slowing it down...you only had to send what...3 PMs telling me to get my votes in?

Good luck to everyone, and you have to promise to take good care of Ramos for me!!! :)

I will.

Just kidding. Unless the staff judges severely disagreed with the voters I sadly won't be seeing Ramos.
I'm dying to find out who did what!

I did #22 (I think) the Cyberpunk Mage on the "girder base".
